The plane of ecliptic

Since timing was one of the notes in this weeks Weekly, I thought I would mention Magickal Timing as part of the Journey this week. I’m not very good at tracking the stars but as I delve into the science of magick I realize how important it has been in the past to know my correspondences.

Taliesin Mcknight illustrates a what I feel are the essentials. I still can’t wrap my head around timing the hour to the planet but that’s why I have an astro-calendar. 😉 Someone’s good at it, I’ll listen to them.

Also, if you read the post, there is a bit about timing on internal influences, which should always be considered.

Tips for Magickal Timing

Author: Taliesin McKnight

Magick is a very ancient science, and one thing that the sages of old have passed on to us is magickal timing. This truly reveals the scientific nature of the craft. Think of the sun, moon, and stars as a great cosmic clock. Everything has its time and place. The Master and founder of Christianity said that there is a time and a season for everything. This certainly is the case with occult science. There are certain cycles in the natural order and certain ebbs and flows exist in the Universe. Therefore, to move with the tides and cycles of nature is to add power to your spells and rituals. To go against these rhythms is to swim against the current, so to speak. Magick may still be effective, but not nearly as much so if done at the appropriate time. There are four main things to consider when doing magick: the cycles of the planets, the Sun, the Moon, and the weather. In addition to these there are internal conditions that are important for magick.

There are seven ancient planets recognized by the ancient astrologers and magicians. The seven ancient planets are the Sun, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. You may notice that, not only are certain planets omitted, but also some are added that are not even considered planets by modern standards. Nonetheless, these are the astrological forces considered when working magick. The seven ancient planets have been called the “Governors of the World.”

This is because the great cosmic clock is said to affect the destiny of Man, and they hold in their hands the strange and surreal element known as fate. The seven planets rule over the seven days of the week and the planets also rule the hours in the day. The names that we have for the days of the week are derived from: Sunday (Sun day) , Monday (Moon day) , Tuesday (Mars day) , Wednesday (Mercury day) , Thursday (Jupiter day) , Friday (Venus day) , and Saturday (Saturn day) . Thus, when doing a love spell, for example, it would be best to do this on a Friday and during the hour of Venus (more on this in a moment) . Below I have listed the seven planets and their characteristics and correspondences.

Tarot Weekly February 7 - 13, 2011

The spirit addresses us in those who command the physical. Men or women who are rulers in their own right, leaders, kings, emperors, politicians, officials. The light shines through them, their message or the message around them. This is significant in that their decisions are affecting our environment, the physical and social realms that we operate within. The mother.

We are rulers in our own right. Do not let persuasive power move you. Keep your wit and your strength, by claiming your own choices (destiny) and going the direction that feels right for your own growth, practice, or period of life.

Watch mid week when Pluto and Venus do a little dance with each other, Atrapos. This can magnify the energies of these relationships so be sure of yourself, your heart, and your aim on your path because it could be altered if you are not. Note needing something over simply wanting it. Discern between the two.

Watch for tendencies to be miserly, greedy, emotionally aloof or closed. The state of giving and abundance are true gifts, and when we are centered in them we shine and other paths open before us. Gratitude attitude.

Small changes are apparent in the structures we have depended on. Cracks that appear now, foreshadowing changes to come. The Tower is noted by those who did not head the warnings to evacuate the building, thus having to throw themselves from the parapets screaming and ablaze. We can change better than that. We’re evolving. We’re awake in our feelings and intuition. We honor these emotions and indicators. Feel  natural and in harmony with this.

There is a wealth of astrological information about the daily movements at Shirley’s site. If you have your own astrological resource please refer to her or him as there seems to be some interesting points along the weekly map with the Moon, Mercury, and Saturn.

Be strong. Inner discipline regarding earthly matters about the administration of your life / business. Exude abundance. Watch for social-political, or otherwise influences from bosses, government, or key figures of power in your life. Be sure the decisions you are making are based on the scenarios you are attempting to manifest in your life and not the desire to please, ease, or make light of uncomfortable situations related to these figures. Do not operate from fear…

Abundance. Empress. Earth mother.

Exude it with confidence, softness, and throw in a wink.

In keeping with the trend of forecasting energetic trends, I bring you an excerpt from Michelle Karen’s blog.

Look for:

((NEWSLETTER EXCERPT))

We are blessed with a Solar Eclipse on Tuesday January 3 at 1:03 AM at 13º39′ Capricorn.

This degree is represented in the Sabian Symbols by the following image: “An ancient bas-relief carved in granite remains a witness to a long-forgotten culture”. Eclipses are always days of intensified energy which shift our lives permanently to a whole new level of experience and consciousness. Everything done/said on an eclipse day tends to be final. No matter what happens, we should take extra care in remaining positive and loving. This particular eclipse asks us to re-evaluate our goals and ambitions, as well as our place in society. We may want to simplify our immediate reality. As more and more of the knowledge carried within from past/parallel civilizations remember itself within us, the more wisdom and power we exude. An important time to remember who we really are in our divinity and where we come from in an expanded concept of reality.

Saturn turns retrograde on Tuesday January 25

3′ Libra. This degree is symbolized in the Sabian Symbols by: “Two men placed under arrest”. A time to seriously question the duties, responsibilities and obligations our conditioning has made us blindly accept. Even if this means that we could become vastly misunderstood. The more we awaken to our personal power, the truer to ourselves we become, the less tolerant we may be toward structures that have lost their meaning to us. It is a time to reach personal mastery and be clear in our hearts on what rules we truly want to follow and why. On the road to enlightenment we have to follow as much as we can, the dictates of our inner truth.

via January 2011 : Michelle Karen Books, Astrology – A Special Tool for Personal Empowerment.

What I don’t see mentioned here are the great words from her email, which I found quite helpful. Here are some excerpts as well.

********

As this new year 2011 starts, we are truly being projected into the unknown. In the Mayan Calendar, this one-before-last year is our last chance to clear our karma. This is why everything is coming to a head in such a violent way, forcing us to face the consequences of our actions,  but most profoundly, look at our thoughts/images, our feelings and the realities they create in our external world.

This Solar Eclipse talks about the need to find passion in our lives, fully commit ourselves to our spiritual growth, to projects that make us soar, as well as to a deep relationship -first to ourselves in the marriage of the masculine and the feminine within- and then to another whom we have a strong soul bond with. We are seeking nothing less than true intimacy with a person with whom we are of matching power and can relate to in body, mind, soul and spirit. This position is also likely to reveal what is keeping us from true love, what false/limiting/limited beliefs we still hold on to that prevent us from experiencing the joys of shared love. It is a time to dwell profoundly into the thoughts we have surrounding relationships and sexuality. Unexpected fortuitous events involving friends, the pursuit of educational, humanitarian or spiritual interests support us in realizing dreams and visions we’ve held for a long time for a deep personal relationship.

It also requires of us to see our own beauty, own our personal power and stand in our passion.

We could be led to creating new adventurous streams of income that require that we take certain risks in expanding our skills.

Limitations could be felt in our domestic circumstances, somewhat stifling the scope of our actions. But if we remain mindful that the change we want to see in the world first needs to occur in our own perception, then those blocks will automatically disappear and we’ll truly become the masters of our destiny. Making our home a sanctuary to bring the sacred into our daily lives could become important.

On a professional level these were / are important foot notes. I thought it would be beneficial to you to share them. Do with them as you will.

Where ever this finds you, I hope you are having a lovely new year.

Lunar libration. see below for more descriptions

Image via Wikipedia

I’m really excited for this week. We’ve got a cosmic-trifecta, at 1:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, (Dec. 21st) a full moon and total lunar eclipse will occur on the winter solstice. The last time that happened was on December 21, 1638. Um… that’s a long time ago.

More than just the knowledge of the solar-lunar solstice and the potent energy that it caries to be honored and observed I had a tickling at the crown this morning as the sensation of the message came through. In no way do I wish to be cliché but Hope and Light and Peace were my spiritual hash-tags. It’s as if the spirit of Christmas, much talked about and portrayed in film and story is muscling in over and around the pervasive heavy vibration that has ebbed in and out the last few months; and which appeared to heighten in the last week.

If you are sensitive to the subtle flows of energy in and around us, you may have perceived this in various situations.

Well I pulled a card this week, The Star, and I think that is message enough from me but the accent cards show that our healing and inspirational skills can be applied to our life in the most effective way at this time, because the time is right.

But don’t take my word for it, let’s look at some of the buzz around the web, specifically those that focus in on the Cosmic-Trifecta this solstice.

“Tuesday, December 21 at 0:13 AM PST we shall be experiencing a Lunar Eclipse in Gemini (29º21’). What makes this a rare event is that it is occurring only a few hours before the Winter Solstice (Sun entering Capricorn at 3:39 PM PST). Eclipses are always major turning points in our lives and this one, even more so. To find out which area of your life will be the most affected, look at which astrological house it is falling into.

This eclipse points to the importance of balance and integrity. We need to infuse beauty and peace in our personal relationships. It is important that we discover -or reassess- what our common goals/dreams with our significant other are, so that passion may continue to make us soar or reawaken from its ashes. A sense of intensity and groundedness in our personal power accompanies these realizations. As we know who we are, what we want and what we have in common, nothing will stand in the way of what we can manifest as a couple.

For those who do not presently have a significant relationship, it is a time to  create your inner marriage and find completeness within yourself.  Making our inner masculine and  feminine conscious, erases the sense of lack or longing. If your desire is to join with another in relationship, from that place of mastery, peace and wholeness where you are deeply in love with yourself and your life,  it will necessarily unfold in the most beautiful of ways.

And from Trumbull Patch:

Traditionally, the solstice is a time of renewal, of hope in the darkness and of celebration as the days gradually become longer.  Many cultures used to celebrate their new year at the winter solstice. Rock formations, temples and pyramids were said to have been built to show their people the exact time the solstice was taking place so they could plan their rituals and ceremonies.

It’s no coincidence that our celebrations at this time of year focus on adding light to the darkness. Trees and homes are illuminated by Christmas lights, and candles are lit on the Hannukah menorah as we find ways to make it through and out of the darkest time of the year.

There’s so much electro-magnetic energy swirling around us that feeling major “shifts” in our lives in the coming days is to be expected.

Power created by the solstice point is amplified by the full moon in the final degree of the mental sign of Gemini and is boosted by the fateful total lunar eclipse. Issues that have been working beneath the surface of our minds and hearts will soon manifest into reality.

Pay extra attention to your dreams, gut instincts, synchronicities and coincidences — all signs and signals of new insights and truths and the next steps to more happiness and fulfillment.

With all the cosmic power out there as we wind up 2010, the coming year appears to offer a no holds barred “fresh start.”

By Eugenie Diserio / Full article here.

Finally a great note on other aspects of the solstice and the eclipse, with some particularly interesting notes on the astrological components. Justin Bond posted this link on Twitter and I bookmarked it for today as there are several interesting passages in the newsletter. I can’t repaint the message, or the great details that Cathy Pagano has spelled out for us. I invite you to take a peak at what I have her and then invest a little time in reading and meditation on both the newsletter and her great blog Wisdom of Astrology.

This Solstice is important too because in 2011 the dance between Uranus (revolution) and Pluto (death & rebirth/evolution) intensifies, eventually forming seven exact squares between 2012 and 2015; these energies will continue to push us to demand personal, cultural and political reforms.   With these squares, we will be entering the first–quarter phase of the 60s conjunction of Pluto and Uranus.  Echoing the Hero’s journey, this is the phase of the cycle when we have to over-come obstacles, where our determination is tested.   You just have to look at the world news to understand that these energies are at play in the world, asking us to work with them creativity.  When Uranus finally enters Aries in March 2011, we will discover new identities for ourselves, new ways of entering into the life of the world.  This new Birth therefore, is important for us since it is our new Uranian identity that’s being born in the Light.

One way to understand what we have to do now is to entertain the possibility of making our instincts conscious by seeing them as archetypal patterns; the work is to recognize what our instincts are telling us about ourselves. Are we warriors, nurturers, inventors, artists, scientists, environmental visionaries? The Child of Light is a redeemer and savior.  S/He redeems the Dark – brings what is still dark into the light of consciousness. What talents and abilities are waiting to be recognized and born in that divine maternity bed this Winter Solstice?

The full Moon occurs just hours before the Sun enters Capricorn.  This Gemini-Sagittarius Full Moon is not only a lunar eclipse, but also a Super Moon, swinging closest to the Earth and intensifying its gravitational pull on us.  So we might get more emotional, more dreamy, more unconscious.  It also occurs at the last degree of Gemini/Sagittarius, signs which rule how we think and what we believe about life, pushing us to resolve the full energies of the two signs with wisdom and compassion.  The Eclipse is visible in Europe, in South & North America and Japan, and is total at 8:13am GMT/3:13am EST/12:13am PST.  (You’ll find more information at my astrology blog.)

Since the eclipse occurs at the last degrees of Sagittarius and Gemini, it concerns how we transform information, beliefs, and knowledge into Wisdom.  Emotions and feelings play a big part in that, and with the eclipse, we might find ourselves understanding just why we do what we do.  The more we know about what our beliefs are founded on, the easier it will be to transform what’s blocking us so we can bring about real change in our cultural attitudes and in the environmental degradation we have created.

(Later)

This eclipse also (trines) attracts energy from Neptune and Chiron’s idealistic new vision of Aquarian wholeness and equality.  When the darkness takes the place of the Light during the eclipse, we could be thrown into chaos and fear, but if we hold true to our vision of one world at peace, if weImagine as John hoped we would, we will come through the dark night with a clearer vision and a brighter hope than we’ve had in a while.  A lunar eclipse marks the end of something.  But an end is always a new beginning.

We need to tell a new story.  That’s what Winter Solstice invites us to do, especially this year with Mercury going deep into the Galactic Center. The fires of Creation await us!   Let’s imagine it together.

Wisdom of Astrology / Cathy Pagano

Personally it is important for me to say that this time, at this moment, we have a great opportunity to be who we essentially are in our truest vision of ourself. We do not have to be Oprah (whom I love) to inspire, or his Holiness the Dalai Lama to represent your heart of compassion, these are just a few of the Stars in our life. They are reflecting our greatest potential.

Believe in that potential.

Mercury goes into retrograde on Saturday. I’ve been talking to B about this, and spreading out some advice about transactions and communication -part of which I should have kept in mind today myself- *grumbles* because he wants to invest in some new wheels.

Naturally he asked, should I buy the car when Mercury goes Retrograde? Personally, I probably wouldn’t but that doesn’t mean I absolutely would not. Who runs my life, me or Mercury?

Conversation ensued, I had to leave to hit a dinner date / consultation, and I returned to find this article in my facebook inbox.

I love when I get these things. I really do.

The article is cheeky, fun, and yes insightful. B’s probably buying a new car, one like we’ve rented before (and loved), and we’re going to do it on a “new rules retrograde”.

Excerpt: When Mercury Goes Retrograde

What can we do when Mercury goes retrograde? It’s a fair bet it will continue to go retrograde, a few times a year, every year, until the Sun explodes and none of us have to worry about it any longer. So it’s something we can count on — and it’s something we can predict and put on the calendar. In that respect it’s a lot easier to deal with than problems that occur without any warning! Other than hang up signs saying “Talk to me when Mercury’s feeling better,” there are several things you can do to cope with a planet in retrograde. But you can do more than just cope! This is something that will continue to happen over and over, so why not find ways to make it a more positive event?

When I was a kid, we would sometimes declare “Opposite Day.” Whatever we said, the opposite was true. We’d spend all day confounding our elders by doing the opposite of what we were told to do, and tormenting our younger siblings and cousins by reversing Opposite Day halfway through their uttering a particularly disagreeable sentence. (I know it wasn’t just me who did that!) Mercury going into retro doesn’t mean “There will be problems.” It means “What normally is, is not and what normally isn’t, is.” It means that Mercury has declared Opposite Day for the next three weeks.

While I don’t suggest you go around telling your family and friends that you dislike them, I do suggest you try doing things you don’t normally do. Have you been putting off writing someone a letter? Mercury retrograde can be a great time to sit down and communicate with someone you haven’t spoken to in a long time. Have you been busy playing phone tag with someone at work? Stop calling! Maybe it would be better to visit in person. If you and your spouse always seem to fight and argue when Mercury is in retrograde, why not agree to spend time alone, take a weekend off and go on separate vacations or just agree to ignore one another for an evening? You could even declare a “no verbal communication” day and use written notes and hand signals.

Take this chance to be creative. Think about what problems Mercury in retrograde usually causes
