During morning meditation today I revisited a place in the inner temple where I met a spirit by the name of Uli. More on that later as I am still in the middle of writing a new post in the Journey Journal. Anyway, the lesson was connection and perception. Uli, in short, made a show of how she connects to all the things she perceives: Sun, moon, stars, grass, wind.

This idea creates an opening, a feeling of unfolding, an aaaaaah that I experience below my navel, and that spreads across my entire being. This week has in a large part been about nurturing and tending relationships (Tarot Weekly) with ourself, our loved ones, and potentially new relationships.

In broader sweeps I see the release of emotional baggage, and karma associated with relationships. Clearing the channel leaves the healer, visionary, open to hold a greater space for love, insight, and energy to pass through.

Others, healers, and seers are the forerunners of tomorrow, keep your self healthy. Observe your interactions, your relationships, how you meet them, tend them, and cultivate them.

Our true message is within the center of these fires of the heart.

Okay, so, perception. As I come through my aaaaaah and open my eyes and my tweetdeck, I see a post by Chati.

Meditating on this song and opened eyed drinking in the images. Heart afloat, mind dazzling, eyes are doorways. Thank you Feather Lynn for bringing this one to my screen. 🙂

It is my gift to be here. It is your gift to be here. Together we have gifts.

When it becomes an obligation, or a duty, there is weight but meaning. There is work to be done.

When there is insistence that our relationship be anything other than a gift, the present… it is gone. That is true for me in work, friends, love, life.

I see that now, I was never able to articulate it or express it with ease or grace.

I will sit with that. May that be a paper lantern prayer, glowing in the twilight. Carry me further down this river.

It seemed like a lot of people around me had a goal at the New Year to do something creative or  new. I’ve seen some interesting, empowering, and generally fun things as friends and connections keep their commitments. My friend Carla has taken a photo of the day, every day. Another friend is creating illustrations. Inspired by my friend Maria Yraceburu who once spent a year focusing on meditation, recording her thoughts in the morning. I decided to do a daily journal of meditation.

In short a Meditation of the Day.

For me, this process brings me to the place of writing under a daily commitment, which is very important to me. More importantly I think it causes me to reflect on  myself, my thoughts, the world and what populates it from my perspective.

Meditation is a skill, a psychic muscle and using that daily I become strong and focused at it. This, I like. 🙂

This is on of my “Meditation’s of the Day” (MotD). I would generally keep these down to a few sentences but today I feel verbose.

Reclaiming for me is a powerful thing. To reclaim a word, an idea, I am taking what would otherwise be considered unsuitable for use and re-crafting the definition, the meaning. I chose Witch a long time ago. I reclaimed the word for myself.

Today it seems like the word “God” needs reclamation. It is in the hands of institutions, on the lips of radicals, and the justifying reason for violence against others. Humans use “God” -historically we can call this a “once again”- as an excuse for incivility and down right mean-spirited behavior, cruelty, and worse. I hear a television personality say it, sometimes with an air of righteousness or even defense, and I cringe…

I think that my conditioning to shy away from the word is actually a fear of power. To reclaim the word, the idea, God, I am reclaiming a powerful spiritual thing hijacked by religious institutions and villainous ilk.

I think it’s up to me to realize that I am not alone in this, me and my inner “don’t-go-there-with-the-G-word,” and I think it is time to go there. To take it away from those who would use it to persecute, subjugate, enslave, or harm another.

I’m fortunate to be born here in the States, to live in a city where I have the freedom to do this without violence, civil unrest, or persecution. I can write about it without my government shutting me down. I can speak about it in a public forum without fear of arrest, or violence.

I reclaim the word God and strip away the facade, the gender, hate, and history of pain and I see it for what it is, for me. An inner spirit that comes in many shapes, faces, and things. Genderless, loving, and willing to re-write a history beginning with healing.

That healing begins with me as I reclaim the word.

Be well,

Scott Lifencompass

Greetings!

With the new year I began a few new projects for Lifencompass, the Journey. Is started a fan page on Facebook. I crafted a new path on my magickal journey, beginning the Living Temple of Witchcraft Series, starting with Volume One: Decent of the Goddess, Christopher Penczak. I also penned a few drafts for some art/craft projects. 🙂

In this posting I wanted to talk about the breath and breathing, through the vein of a few meditations in the Temple of Witchcraft series. This month I have set up a Root Chakra Temple, and started with the Muladhara in my meditations and journey work.

Some of the Temple of Living Witchcraft reviews will appear on my Vimeo channel, for registered and approved viewers. Please contact me there if you would like to view the vlog.

The past three days I’ve woken and done breath work, breathing through my senses.

Opening The Senses

Exercise 3, Living Temple of Witchcraft, Christopher Penczak.

As part of the mysteries of the body, we explore the senses, the root, and the body. I love these exercises, they’ve had a very practical and positive impact on my life, down to my daily routine.

In this meditation we use breath to first draw in healing energy (Life Force Energy, Prana) through each of our senses, and then explore that sense. Meditating on what we perceive. We end by breathing and out through our entire being. If you would like Christopher’s meditation and tutorial, I suggest picking up his Temple of Witchcraft series. Life changing.

After entering a meditative state we breath through our eyes, then ears, nose, skin, and mouth. In each moment we are exploring the power of that breath of energy and opening our senses to the body and the world around us. Sounds pretty simple but you would be surprised at how you have dimmed some of your senses.

I use various methods of moving energy but on the second day of using this technique my mind wandered off the prescribed path and began to piece together other exercises to increase the depth of the experience.

First I recalled that Brandon’s Grand Mother wakes in the morning and does her form of Yoga. Breathing in through her nose, and out through her mouth while stretching and extending her body. Good stuff. At 78 she has done more than most Grand Mothers, including Tae Bo! And she still goes to the gym and looks fabulous!

So as I breathed in and out through my senses I recalled that the breath is healing, enlivening, vital.

I followed through the senses listening and feeling, and then completed the prescribed course at which point my mind jumped off again and I found a few other helpful pathways of breathing.

I recalled a dream from a few  nights ago in which I met a Peruvian medicine person (not sure if that is the proper title of the masculine feminine use of the word). She was breathing in energy of the world and sending it back into the world. It was a startling dream because she was glowing brighter with each breath, powerful with each exhale. She used a few examples, including a friend to demonstrate the power of her breathing technique. During the exercise today she appeared re-illustrating the breathing in and out of Life Force Energy, into the sky, the earth, the body, and the environment. Into each thought that came to my mind.

Then as I was breathing into the earth and sky I began to direct the energy to come through the lungs of the three worlds. Upper, middle, and lower. Each being, one being, myself, breathing in and out the sacred energy of life and breath and returning light and energy to the world. This brought me to the essential self, the awakening of the consciousness of the master within (Awaken Your Light Body, Formless Self, etc) and a new breathing that was an amalgamation of my senses, and levels of awareness.

Breath, is a powerful thing.

********

Muladhara chakra is shown as having four petal...

Muladhara: Image via Wikipedia

You may ask, how are these things beneficial or even practical, as I mentioned before?

Well, I’m finding that a lot of the work done at the Muladhara has brought clarity to financial issues, helped me to organize my house, kept me stable and grounded. This is magick on it’s most practical level. Loving the body and life. Expanding the senses. Becoming aware of our surroundings and making use of the vital energies.

Although I have long worked with my own energetic system the result of re-addressing them from a new perspective has refreshed my outlook, inviting changes and broadening my understanding of myself and my connection to all things.

I’m also reminded of two other points. One, I know that as we shift our awareness we shift awareness around us. Now I do see how that shift could be up or down, meaning positive or negative and how that change can effect those that we surround ourself with. But if you follow me here, and I believe you are, then as I breath I exhale into the world my intention for healing. As I expand my senses to include a deeper awareness of the world around me and my interactive place within it, am I not contributing to some 100th healer phenomena? What was the Peruvian Medicine Person (in my dream) meaning when she instructed to breath that energy back into the world? I have my answer. What would be yours?

The second point that comes to mind is that the practice of meditation, breath work, and of bringing in these subtler energies of healing and light into my life, that they have really changed the vibe around me. I see it in how I interact with those closest to me and how I move through the world. It adds to a fuel of energy within, a little storehouse. It’s very helpful, enough that I would like to share. So here would be my instructions for the breath work. My tweaks to the process.

Breathing Prana, or Life Force Energy

  1. Get into a meditative state. State your intentions.
  2. Start with the Opening the Sense exercise listed in The LToW, Vl. One or another similar breathing exercise to expand your awareness.
  3. Breath in the energy through your five senses. Take note of any feelings, thoughts, sensations, and record them later.
  4. Now that this level of awareness is established, we’re going to go wider. Deeper.
  5. Breath in the Life Force Energy and out into the crown, the heart, and the root. Bring the awareness of your intake and exhale at these points as simultaneous inward and then outward streams of energy. Feel the multi-layered awareness. I imagine my upper, lower, and middle world selves as a linked, unified being. It is sometimes necessary to explore each of them individually to know them. Like understand the had to the arm, the arm to the torso, etc, but for the purposes of this exercise we should be at the stage of having established these points of awareness. If it is uncomfortable, stop, practice something different and come back to it when you feel ready.
  6. Now focus your awareness on the entire being. Breathing in and out into three worlds, through the five senses, the crown, the root, the heart. This is the greater being. Breath in. Breath out. This is who you are in a broader sense, a magickal mapping of mutli-dimensionality.
  7. The power of this being is you. Notice that as you breath in and out into your environment, that the energy is passing through a center in your body. It is moving through a vortex, that is both taking in and sending out the energy. Find that place, should be around the area of your naval. Breath in and out. Breath in the light and exhale the light. See it the vortex of energy glowing with this energy. Not too much, not too little, just the right amount. Send any excess into the world as light. This is healing energy. Life force. It infuses you, your self, your energy centers, breath and body.
  8. Stay in this place of breath, being, and energy until you are ready to return.
  9. Come back to your normal state of consciousness in your preferred way. This plane. This moment. This time. Stretch and move your body comfortably. Bring your breathing back to what feels like your everyday breath. Wiggle your fingers and toes.
  10. Christopher Penczak says, and I recommend, to “Take both hands and raise them up over your head, palms facing your crown. Slowly bring them down  over your forehead, face, throat, chest, abdomen, and then groin, and “push out” with your palms facing away from you. This gives you clearance and balance, releasing any harmful or unwanted energies you might pick up during your magickal experience. Tell yourself:

I give myself clearance and balance. I am in balance with myself. I am in balance with the universe. I release all that does not serve my well being.” (pg 47, LToW, Vol. 1, excerpt Exercise 1).

Now ground yourself as needed.

I’m getting into the habit of this mediation daily, in the morning when I first wake. You can find the time that works best for you. You don’t have to go as deep every time you do the breathing exercise, simply staying with the senses or moving directly to the whole-being as you feel called. I’ve got a pretty good understanding of my whole system so I can start by breathing into my senses and move rather purposefully into the more advanced and deeper work. Go with what feels comfortable, right.

I’m sure you’ll see and feel a difference. Daily meditation, bringing in light work, adding breathing, these things have helped me to clean up parts of my life where I felt a bit disorganized and to follow my calling at the same time.

That’s practical magick.

See you next time.

I was thinking about the message of Salmon rom this weeks Tarot Weekly and the directness, often aired as sternness or even hard delivery of the misunderstood Queen of Swords. I wanted to put together a meditation that woud help in the process of touching that source wisdom and for carrying that forward into our day-to-day life to affect the change we want.

Anyway, Salmon as Wisdom and Vajra as enlightenment.

Peer often deep within the pool of Fec,
Peer often deep within the pool of thought,
And you will harmonize the wandering mind,
Recover sunken secrets of yourself,
Find love and light without you, as within,
And wake new wonder by the banks of Boyne.

From “The Song of the Salmon-God” by W.P. Ryan

Vajra || Mudra of the Fist of Wisdom

Phylameana lila Desy over at About.Healing.com writes:

Varja: The Vajra mudra transforms ignorance into wisdom. Symbolizes the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and metal. photo © Joe Desy

How to form the Vajra Mudra: Right-handed fist surrounds left index finger. Remaining fingers of left hand also form a fist below the right hand.

Why a Mudra? How does that connect to Salmon?

Well first I’m a Reiki Practitioner, and educator. Reiki has primary roots in Buddhism, and deeper originating points traced through practice in such spiritual traditions as Wu Shamanism, Hindusim, and Shinto. There is a relevant connection in my personal cosmology as Ki is often used in all things that I do. I just about empower Reiki with everything, some exclusions for specific types of work, spells, and other occult practices. The Vajra mudra became the link of inspiration that lead me to an understanding of how I can communicate with, and get the most out of this weeks animal helper.

The Salmon was thought to represent Wisdom and the instinct to return to the place where it spawns, or knowing the source, essence. Salmon is Vajra, Vajra is Salmon. The fish / fist of wisdom. They both lead us towards greater understanding.

I use Mudra’s, with Reiki, or other forms of energy work by running the energy through the hand gesture in a state of focused concentration on (1) receiving the impression that the mudra causes and (2) magnifying the energy of the mudra by chanting the name. This illustrates a form of resonance and attunement, and using the energy to affect change in consciousness.

This week we are working with a Druidic Animal Totem, Salmon. Bringer of Wisdom, seeker of Source. In short, this reminds me of the idea of Vajra, or enlightenment. The insight for me was through Vajra (wisdom) and the use of mudra’s, Salmon could be our guide to the Source this week.

I’d like to propose some Journeywork with the Salmon to access the wisdom that has been suggested as a resource for us in the Tarot Weekly.

  1. Get centered and cleared, mentally, physical, emotional, and at the soul level.
  2. Set the intention to clearly and easily hear the message from your source.
  3. Count down into a meditative / magickal state (or your practice of getting into the deeper space).
  4. Imagine a primal forest through wich flows a deep and vast river, winding in and out of the canopy of trees. A powerful force of water that carries water throughout this mythical place.
  5. Approach the river and  evoke the spiritual or “Master Salmon” spirit. The animal spirit essence of all Salmon. You could see it as a larger than life fish that appears within the water, greeting you.
  6. Establish a connection to this spiritual being, the earthy force, the instinct, the power of Salmon. Follow these queues to establish a deeper feeling, and therefor psychic connection, to the power and wisdom that it represents.
  7. Ask the Salmon Spirit to take you to the source of your wisdom. You may find that you are taken on a long journey, others may find theirs short, but you will travel up the river, against the current, to the spawning place of all your deepest wisdom. You may travel through still pools, deep currents, up water falls, and other kinds of watery places. Know that you are safe. Know that you journey towards the source of your insight.
  8. As you come close to this spawning ground, notices other salmon returning to the source as well. The water is alive with their thrashing, spray fans the air as you come to the source.
  9. At the Source, the Salmon circle you, calming. Here at the pool you experience the vibration of your deepest wisdom. Call upon the Wisdom of your source. If we’re supple, open to the shift, we can allow the consciousness to shift and when we reach for our source we can experience the information there on a new level. Undoubtedly the wisdom is there but the point of the mudra is to dispel ignorance thus removing the “cloud” that is blocking our reception.
  10. Take in whatever information that you receive from your source. Know it.
  11. Take a moment then to review your life from this center of clarity, go over the panorama of your life and look for areas where the “discord” or cloudiness is apparent. Feel these spots through the images, symbolic or litteral, and make a connection to them. Explore that sensation / feeling.
  12. Now send the energy of your source through that connection and ask (for your greater well being) that the lesson or direction that is needed become clear. Ask yourself, does it feel healthy to clean, raise the frequency, or even remove this energy from my life? If not, do not proceed. If yes, allow the Wisdom vibration to transform, blast, sweep away, or other lift the vibration.
  13. It’s possible that Salmon will have a message for you at the end of this visualization. Ask if there is anything further that you should know, seen or unseen. Then ask to journey back to the edge of the primal forest with the Salmon Spirit.
  14. Give thanks to the totemic force and spend any time you need at the edge of the water before returning to normal consciousness.
  15. Ground off any excess energy into the earth, and ask that it be used to heal the planet.

Journal your experience. I might suggest pulling out key phrases that jump out of the entry and combining them into an affirmation, or a chant that you can use in any follow up spell / energy work. Affirmations can be very transformative if used properly, and regularly.

From a previous post…

Affirmations are the act of affirming or stating that something, generally an idea or behavior, is true in order to affect change within our lives. Affirmations are powerful, they change the basic thought structure and patterns of how we think about something and in doing so we change the way in which we do…. do. :)

Affirmations aren’t so esoteric but are actually quite effective. I have transformed my life through the use of affirmations and you can too! Simple, constructive and reinforcing statements “that strengthen the you that you are” and not “the you that you fear you are.”

Louise Hay, Woman of Wisdom, author of Heal Your Body among other wonderful works, would be a great starting point if you want to explore affirmations in greater detail.

I have used affirmations in my life many times over but it wasn’t until recent shifts in thought and lifestyle over the last 5 years that I truly could appreciate the effectiveness of consciously choosing to change with affirmations, and other tools in my magickal tool belt, my self. I have my own set of reminders that I turn to in order to get the most out of our gift to choose to change, and these are them. (Continue reading here…)

What good is our inner wisdom if we do not access it?

Take a little time with this visualization, or another that you are more comfortable with, to get in touch with your truth, your wisdom, your source.

Let me know how your meditation goes! Did you work with the energy of Salmon or another symbol or image? Did you have any key insights? Please feel free to share.

Question: If I made Journeywork / meditations private, would you be inclined to share more?

Happy Moon-day. I hope this posting finds you well. If you’re in Southern California like me, please avoid the heat. It is one hell of a hot day.

Tarot Weekly

The Start, Four of Wands (R), Ace of Wands, Nine of Swords, Knight of Pentacles (R)… and Dog. *pant pant*

A few words floated around in meditation this morning, and a random morning encounter with a friend brought another, on a walking meditation you have to be aware of these things. The words were: Sophia and Kismet

Sophia being the divine feminine spirit, wisdom, and awakening to greater love… The energy of creation at the level of the heart, or crown. Kismet, or the will of Shai, Gods will but I get the sneaking suspicion that Kismet is more related to Ma’at, or she who moves the heavens, the stars, and the forces of The Universe.

I’m thinking that this week we are better served to seek the answer outside of our view. Do not draw on our personal well of knowledge, seek new vision first. To be open to enlightenment about our ideas about healing, resolution, and well our overall well-being.

We may want a positive experience, but it may not seem so uplifting at the moment. The Star (below) does not herald instant results.

The Star

The Star returns to us after some time to us and I feel that this is in perfect timing with the challenges that the Chariot and other astrological obstacles of late. (See the Tarot Weekly thread).

In my mind it’s a bit like someone who is held in a room. Four walls, carvings etched there, reliefs of various events that he or she is addressing. The stones have been solid, the issues writ, the response the same, and we do not pass out of the room. Suddenly the stonework becomes transparent and for an instant we see beyond it, our hands pass through the stone like clouds, the challenges of reality lift to the mental level, the mind can address them in abstract, our situation changes, we are not bound the room of stones.

Again, The Star does herald victory, but it’s not immediate, it’s the knowledge that a soul-felt success is coming. Maybe because in this we can see beyond the immediate and into the long-term, or at least the opportunity to pierce the present perspective.

Supporting Cards

Four of Wands (R) represents the limits of our view (of our situation). The house is on its head and we think that this is the way that we live. Relax it up, see where we need to allow for some breathing room and expand our minds with that breath.

I relax my body. I relax my mind. I relax my emotions. I relax my soul. Now, what do you see? Check in with you and find out.

Ace of Wands illuminates the thrust of passion, with respects to the Four of Wands (R), I believe it may show that the drive may be misdirected and thus the need for the break to collect one self. The energy is there for a reason, it is passion without purpose yet. Calm, collect, review, then see where you need place your energy. You may very well find a better way more in line with your real creative / innovative self.

Nine of Swords is a reminder to not let the doubts keep you up at night. This is the little demon that’s keeping you from the expanded place where you have the heaven’s view. The one that kept you in walls, the little beast that’s been niggling at you to fear, worry, mentally struggle. It’s in direct opposition to the message of the star. Dreams could be very revealing.

The Knight of Pentacles (R) then is the Knight of our fears. This could also be representative of someone who is adding to, or convincing you of the worried state of mind.

Connect to our angels, guides, gods, higher power, spirits, of inspiration. Soften (Sophia) to their message. See the bigger picture (Kismet) and find what these broader movements mean to you and your current state of internal affairs.

Connect to sustaining support systems, your vital affairs such as work, home, income, and see if they are being handled with care, planning, responsibility, and love.

(Careful of the guy that says there is nothing to worry about and that they have everything under control… Your concern could actually be telling you something. He’s probably fooling you).

Animal Ally

Dog (R). Love. Loyalty. Guardian. Protection. Gatekeeper in many traditions.

The Fool is followed by the dog, who is that little dog down there at his foot, yapping at the seeker? Is the pooch there to guard against the fall? Guardians of gateways into mystery, the dog is allowing us to see through the crack in the universe at this time. He is leading us to insight so his power can be used for good or ill. The mind is the director of the vision, if we’re hell-bent of fear, doubt, narrowed ideas, worry, then the ever-loyal dog will illuminate our truths through these denser paths.

*UPDATE: Just realized it’s National Dog Week. How appropriate.*

From the Aeclectic Tarot

“On the bleak landscape where the Tower stood, the Fool sits, empty, despairing. He hoped to find himself on this spiritual journey, but now he feels he’s lost everything, even himself. Sitting on the cold stones, he gazes up at the night sky wondering what’s left. And that is when he notices, nearby, a beautiful girl with two water urns. As he watches, she kneels by a pool of water illuminated with reflected starlight. She empties the urns, one into the pool, one onto the thirsty ground.

“What are you doing,” he asks her. She looks up at him, her eyes twinkling like stars. “I am refilling this pool, so that those who are thirsty may drink, and I am also watering the earth so that, come spring, the seeds will grow,” she tells him. And then she adds, “Come. Drink.” The Fool comes to kneel with her by the pool and drink. The water tastes wonderful, like liquid starlight. “I can see you are sad,” the girl continues, “and I know why. But you must remember that you have not lost all. Knowledge, possibilities, and hope, you still have all of these. Like stars, they can lead you to a new future.” Even as she says this, she began to fade away, like dew, vanishing. All that remains is a gleam that was at the center of her forehead. This rises up and up, until it settles in the night sky as a shining star. “Follow your star,” the woman’s voice seems to sing from that light, “and have hope.” The Fool takes in a breath and rises. It is a dark night, a desolate land. But for the first time, he has a guiding light to show him the way. Distant as it is, it heals his heart, and restores his faith.”

I hope this finds you well.

Hello. Happy Moon-day.

The new moon was on Sunday, in Cancer, coupled with another Solar Eclipse. I received an eblast from her site, part of the message is below.

Solar Eclipse Message

“Sunday, July 11 at 12:40 PM PDT, there is a major Solar Eclipse! Eclipses are always important turning points/stepping stones into a whole new level of reality, but this one brings unprecedented changes. It is truly about clear endings and exciting new beginnings.

We could have felt pretty spacey in the past few days, forgetting major appointments, having our head in a completely different place than what was required of us to keep our lives on track, we could have experienced body pains and headaches and alternatively increased and lowered energy levels… We were just already in tune with the huge shift of consciousness that is taking the planet by storm.

Our generosity towards others increases. We could be attracted to a whole new group of friends. We are more idealistic and committed to global humanitarian causes. Great fortune is likely to occur. Any endeavor related to corporate money, educational or religious institutions is beneficial. The sudden healing of an illness or an emotional situation that has been creating much grief, could unexpectedly occur as we let go of  deep seated fears and old behavioral patterns that no longer serve us. An unplanned trip could  help us realize long term dreams and completely transform our lives by opening us to a whole new understanding of what is truly important.

It may be interested to remember what happened in our lives around July 11, 1991 and January 9, 2001 when there were eclipses very close to this eclipse at 19º24’ Cancer. What we are now likely to experience is expanding on what happened then.

Love features prominently in this chart. We seek a relationship in which there is a strong soul connection. We could also find ourselves in emotional situations that bring to the surface very strong feelings enabling us to see our wounds and giving us the chance to heal them. We need passion and inspiration and as we learn to balance romance and personal power, we experience the inner marriage of the feminine and the masculine within us, a joining of the Sun and the Earth inside our own being which in turn makes us radiate more light and joy.

Watch the Solar Eclipse here.

********

I want to add an addendum with the moon on that one too. Moon was new in Cancer and naturally is transiting the week through the zodiac but I’m feeling emotional (Cancer), dramatic (Leo), and picky/critical (Virgo).  We may have moved out of the moon and its Cancerian phase but I think that the energies of the new moon can have a resonating effect (strongly) for three days after the event. Considering it was a solar eclipse… I’m thinking maybe that we should consider this emotional and creative energy of Cancer and it’s effect on not only our Sun sign but its lunar path through Leo and Virgo.

In short, I would urge you to feel your emotional self out a little bit and through the emotional intelligence work with that directive you perceive on one of three things: Love, creativity, or domestic issues (home, cleaning, organizing, decorating). Don’t get picky with your friends, partners, associates, family members and remember the moon is transiting Leo before moving to Virgo. Do not be a drama queen.

Tarot Weekly

The Sun in Reverse is our card for the week. There is a subtleness to this light, like the late sun in the Northern Hemisphere, bluish in the evening, lacking some of the warmth that we may feel from it as it sets late in the evening. We’re not focusing on the setting sun, but the light of that sun in its late stage of the day. There is a similarity in the energy moving through for us at this time, a hint to take some of this emotional energy from the new moon and note with our senses (intuitive / emotional) the light that still remains, focused specifically on matters we were attempting to get a handle on last week (Uranus, ‘restlessness, dissatisfaction’, with the Chariot’s answers). There was a call to take charge of a potential run-away-cart and assert some balance between the inner and outer worlds while the universal energies attempted to stir up some change.

Yeah, fun.

There is resonance of that at work, still. Last weeks pull is shining through in whatever balance that you achieved for yourself. The message may be, as of yet, unrefined, or simple and we may want to dwell on details that we should experience, or be working out creatively “in process” and not mentally, or in abstract.

The Sun (R) is then empowered by two cards, Ace of Cups, and Nine of Pentacles (R).

The emotional / intuitive “attunement” to the message of the Sun (R), highlighted by the Ace of Cups. It’s not quite mature but the impulse is there to follow it and if heeded, the subtle light will become more refined. There is also a note about the word used, attunement. This is a chosen word for the lighter realm energy coming through on the wane, there is a special call for healers now and you may find, if you tune into this light, that there will be a few tweaks and adjustments to some of your work. Again, feel it emotionally, not mentally, allow your watery body to vibrate with this subtle transmission and the real inner answer will become clear.

Center at your heart.

This is no time for laziness or think to our self that we can “get to this later”. If you mastered the message from the Chariot, the electro-pop that Uranus gave us, then this should only be a matter of a little self-discipline. Get centered. Tune in. Listen. Vibrate. Carry on. Any sense of security that we may feel is missing, will be eclipsed by the inner work you do. On a very minor note, while you are in meditation, ask if there are any people in your life who appears attached to you that could be suckling at the teat of your inactivity. I’m not saying they are “bad folks” but it may behoove you to seek some answer that will allow you to shift the dynamic of your relationship into a more active, healthy, connection that will serve you both. I recommend stepping off the dramatic “black or white” attitude / edge and look at things from the refined light, how can I improve this relationship?

Meditation

Whatever form of meditation that you use, get centered, get relaxed, and go within. When you have achieved your deepened state it may be helpful to integrate some of the following images into your attunement.

  • The Sun low on the horizon. A blue-white, almost snowy ground, sparse, windy. The air is cool, the sun is warm when it touches you. Though it is present, it is distant. The sky is clear, inviting.
  • Clearly there are images and shapes manifesting in the light around the sun, in the sky which is so clear. They are emanating from the sun’s light and become clear, when you feel them, on the blue of the sky. You cannot make them out but by feeling the shapes, the lines, the contours, the memory and emotion you evoke, they become clear.
  • Focus on the feeling, after the dance and play of images focus solely on the sun small in the sky of blue. Blue like water, sun like white fire, a beautiful tapestry of images that contain the message for you in the sky. Feel the water in your body tune to that center in the sky, feel the messages you are receiving become emotionally clear.

Contemplate this message first. You may feel an urge to suddenly work on someone else but do not. Generally speaking this is a pull inward and then outward. If after you have emotionally settled on the energy and found your cusp of comfort in this transmission and the information that it stirs within you, then you may find that administering that inner light to others around Wednesday – end of week, to those who are truly in need will fit into the grander design of feeling and attunement.

This is when our inner talents can then shine in the path of service.

I hope that this finds you well.

Scott Lifencompass

I had a rocky morning but Wednesdays are turning out to be perfect  hours to do a lot of the work I need to do around the house. Though I am “on call” and need to stick around the area for office needs at the Rowan, I get to work from home and that is phenomenal without the added pressures of dramas now past.

Lists have become essential for me, lists and timers. I really can maximize a day with all the various things I have to carry out in what seems to be hours that are becoming shorter and shorter. NO! Who is the time bandit?!

This morning I had 6 items on my “ta-dah!” list:

  1. Book Review
  2. Email to someone I had a dream about
  3. Meditation on Yesod / The Lunar Path
  4. continuing meditation on the Three Worlds, followed by
  5. contemplation of the Runes accompanied with vibrating the Rune names. More Runic notes
  6. Find the name of a Hindu Deity.

This list does not include my mundane tasks, but they don’t really apply to the post, so consider them there but passed in mention.

The Lunar Path.

Anyway, the reason I am writing is that my meditation was interesting in detail and image. I am still feeling out the experience in detail.

I light a candle for the West and turned off all the lights, just me, the candle and the morning light. I smudged the space, with a blessing and my intention for the journey-work, “an harm none”. I brought with me the items that called out to me, three quartz crystal points, and a 2 pound hunk of selenite.

Trixie, by her secret name, came to the bed and lay next to me, curled up but watching as I went within.

I entered into a relaxed state,  body, mind, and soul. I counted down deep, deeper, there and entered my sacred space. A vast tree that is composed of stars and light in the heights, and shadow and earthy things in the depths.

A door appeared for me, as is the usual when I call for it and I entered into my Inner Temple.

Inside everything has changed. This is unusual. For the last 20 years everything has been pretty much the same. A canopied bed for deeper work, a doorway to other realms that I, and only I, may open. I balcony that overlooks the universe, among other things. This time when I entered there was a square, corners twisted into circles in gold light, on a black featureless floor. This was really quite striking. I’ve come to this place for so long and this was a dramatic change.

I sat within the square, I felt the four directions. I called upon my Guardian and asked that he be with me for the journey I was about to do. I also asked that the meaning of a message that had been left for me earlier in the week be made clear: The Lunar Path.

A passage appears in the darkness by the golden square, between pillar or trees there is an indigo-way, a road marked with the words “Lunar Path”. This path bends to the left around an unseen curve into another place. I rise and as  I do a man, nude, comes out of the darkness and close to me. He is between me and the door and he is asking that I touch him. He is erect and the feeling transfers to me, at the Second Chakra, and vibrates through my body until I am tingling. He is laughing and than his entire form is almost immortalized as a semi-transparent figure through which I must pass… and so I do.

The tingling sensation becomes a vibration and the indigo path I walk opens up into a moonlit world of trees and obscure things. I feel my Guardian there with me and it tells me to focus on the message. As I do another tree appears int he distance, this one is more wild and fantastic looking than my own. Something out of Pandora (Avatar ref.) and a milky light forms between us. This light becomes a woman, a Goddess, unfolding as if from a Lily.  She is full of some of joy and there is an increase in the body vibration as I start to shift. That’s the only way I can describe it. My substance became more vibratory and I felt as if I was dreaming. I think you know the feeling, it’s a different state of mind, this time I am conscious instead of resting. I feel denser. This is a new level or reality. I must transform myself to journey here.

The Goddess reaches out and plucks the three quartz crystals that I had taken with me in the physical to meditate. She laughs and pops them into her mouth. I note that she is a bit translucent and I can see the stones pass through her, released from her body as if birthed in a milky substance and full of vibrating light. She hands them back to me. I place them on my Second Chakra. Simultaneously I feel them beneath my hands, on the large piece of Selenite, also on my Swadhisthana.

The nude man is again transposed across everything, erect, arms flung wide. The Goddess is gone, she is enormous in the distance, like a sliver of lunar light. I am walking on the earth of this plane, it splashes like water.

I sit with the stones and I feel for the meaning. There is a cord like a red-orange electric tentacle that is touching my hands and it is waving about. I feel as if I must straighten the cord and so as I think it, it happens. Tiny people along the cord, like Fairy, move along with me. SNAP! The energy courses along my crown, across the brow, down my face like webs of paint and along my hands. I hear this is your power.

I vibrate deeper and this plane begins to warp around my hands in circles, within circles, and I feel the voice of the quartz against the Selenite. I am clearing them of something, some connection that does not serve me. They are pure. I hear again, this is your power, and the red-orange energy, witchy, old, of earth, and sky, blossom and bone. I stay there and feel it until I than feel the call to return.

Runic Toning.

I move my way back across the path but something happens and I appear at an ocean where the moon is now reflecting on the water, calm, soft waves, smooth sand, a woman singing. I think the sound of the music playing affected the journey but it was really perfect so I went with it.

On the beach I felt the four Runes I had worked on come up in the metaphysical queue. So there I sat in the sand.

A ring of crimson light, glowing with the Futhark, spins about me. The red glow cast a strong light. I pull out the runes in the order that we have studied: Feoh / Uruz / Thurisaz / Os.

With each rune I draw out, I tone (aloud) the name of the rune.

“Feeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Yooooooooooooooooh”

“Uooooooooo-rrrrr-uooooooozzz”

“ThhhhuuuuuuuurrRIssssaaaaaaazzzzz”

“Ooooooooooosssssss”.

At the end of each toning I sit with each Runes vibration.

Feoh feels like the Gold light of the Universe that is within each of us. It is the light expressed, given, emanating from me. It is the magick.

Uruz feels like the animal lust, the nature of beasts, the power of the wild and calls to be brought in, merged, touched. For a few minutes I sit with the sensation as I realize the power of Uruz to heal and “something” guides the Rune towards my chest where I feel the effects of a medication (cold) are lifted and shifted into a new feeling.

Thurisaz gives me some incredible images, and as had been mentioned, they were tough. I see hurt. Trouble. I even see war and fights. I feel the piercing nature of Thurisaz and I accept it. Part of me wants to shift the energy to something more harmonious but a voice says, “No. Accept its force as a part of the world”. I do.

The Rune than turns outward, the thorn points away.

Os then comes and my toning becomes quite loud, softening as I reach the ninth calling and I feel a distinct light-blue power behind the Rune. I am waiting on the beach, in the circle of crimson Runes, beneath the moon, in contemplation.

Three Worlds. Three Selves.

I return to the path and exit the Lunar Plane. I find the square once again and shift my vibration back to the inner level of reality as I prepare to come back to this, the earthy plane. Before I do, I have one more task that I must complete as part of the TOSW training, The World Tree Within (Lesson One, Exercise 6)… This goes “different” then I had read. 🙂

For the past two weeks I have heard, “Three worlds, three bodies” with an interesting knowing that indicated three selves:

  1. Upper or Higher Self
  2. Middle Self
  3. Lower or Underworld Self.

I understand that the exercise was “tree breathing” but what I experienced was totally different. I started breathing in from my body and into the lower world / Underworld Self. There, the feeling, intuitive, Magickal me accepted the breath and at the same time was breathing in and exhaling back to my middles self, my current consciousness. I was in turn breathing and exhaling to my Higher Self who was doing the same until the three breaths were in harmony.

Three inhales. Three exhales, breathing to one another. Three pulses. Three beings. All myself. In the breathing I / we harmonized between the three worlds, the three bodes and it really felt incredible. I still feel amazing. Three points of consciousness and awake at each level.

A note on the forms that I experienced in the lower and upper worlds. Each body that I experienced as myself was different than what I might have expected but they each felt good to me. I trust the sentiment.

The Underworld me was bizarre but comfortable and familiar. Blue skinned, striped black like a tiger and part man (me) and bits of many beasts. Legs human morph down into feet like elephants. Hand sand arms but four legs, like a centaur. Tentacles like squid or Octopus sprouting out from beneath the arms and round the torso. A tail. Eyes wide, yellow, like hunting cats. An erect phallus, spear like. Running through a glowing landscape, stopping and breathing back with instinct, feeling, knowing.

The Upper-world self was equally intriguing. Geometric shapes, within patterns, in gold and white. The “head” I guess you could call it, was like a radiant star composed of fabulous pattern and detail, gold, then white, then gold again. The body like a rain, or storm stopped in downpour, again in gold and white, interwoven in a cascade. The pattern of the head moved, turned, spun, whirled within each layer of its geometry.

I began my meditation at around 9:15. It was 10:45 am when I returned to my wakened self. The stones I carried with me are “heavy” in a very interesting sort of energetic way and one of the quartz points now has a tiny inclusion in it that I had not seen before. Small fracture that looks like the shape of the Lunar Goddess as she unfolded on the horizon.

I don’t get to meditate like this very often. As I said I have full days and at this point it is already 1:00 pm in the afternoon. I have only  hours before I begin class and of course there is dinner to be made, and my little Trixie needs walking. Work needs to be checked on and I have paintings waiting for my fingers and brushes. I don’t feel under a crunch, I call it my “ta-dah!” list because I can do so much. And I’m grateful for the time that I have to do it.

I hope this finds you well, and that you enjoyed the first of my private meditation entries.

Love,

Scott

Welcome back.

This weeks Tarot pull had a little surprise in the spread, two major arcana when we were only expecting one. Yes somehow the hanged man snuck into our reading, in reverse.

Monday July 5th, 2010

I think the meaning of this weeks pull and flow made sense almost immediately this morning. Lying in bed with the light of the morning peeking in through slivers in the curtains somewhere between waking and sleeping I did some journey work and traveled in to the inner world. The outer world felt like it was fighting against my drive to unfold. Horns on the street. Someone with a boom box playing the craziest rap song I’ve ever heard at top-level down on the street. A truck. B begins to toss and turn.

I rise after B grabs some coffee for us and I turn to my creative space to pull cards. I feel the hands of spirit there with me as I shuffle the cards and ask for the weekly reading. Good. Feels good with strong lunar influences, sourcing the light in the reading. Candles lit, curtains fluttering slightly, incense wafting up to fill the space. BAM television blares on and of all things, Hassellbeck from The View… annoyed.

Cards pulled I draw myself over to the computer to write the post and put on my favorite station on Pandora, Yullunga. B tells me that he’s lost his phone. The day is calling. I am out the door to visit friends and do a little tour of Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

There is a force in the air for action! A drawing to pull together opposing forces. Tension. The Chariot!

Two other cards fall together into the reading, the Hanged Man (R), and the King of Wands (R). The world is the distraction, or the distraction is in turning away from the world… and passion of passions that moves to frustration or a flame that burns to fierce, a one shot man. Be careful with any frustrations and/or drives in either direction. The pendulum of opposites can swing wide, almost magnetic under these new auspices brought about by the Uranus retrograde.

And that seems the energy. I tide of pulling that draws us out of last weeks watery introspection, feeling, lifting, and even transfiguration. A summer thrust bound to the Chariot, Sun and Moon, asking us to balance the drive for inner work and the call of living that can suddenly seem at odds. And when we are at odds, out of alignment with left and right, black and white, the King of Wands (R) comes into play. Our passion could turn to aggression when we do not honor the call we feel.

This week watch out for two forces that will be tugging at you. The outer life: Social gatherings, work, friends, family, events and things to do. The inner life: Meditation, contemplation, alone time, and even some of the projects and issues that have tugged at your inner fundamentals.

Uranus has changed direction and Mercury has skiddled out of Cancer, who’s concern is more nurturing, home oriented and fond of creature comforts. Today, July 5th, Uranus went retrograde as well which can stir some restlessness and dissatisfaction. The planet demands change, innovation, and it’s often radical, highlighting the Charioteer and his message of self-assertion around a union of opposites and finding the balance point between these two forces that show themselves as an inner and outer pull at this time.

It would be a good week to practice moving meditation, or finding your zone in sports. A call to find your center of peace at a game, in the bar, out on town while the world is wild around you.

Maria DeSimone, at Tarot Blogs, writes:

I’m going to start calling Uranus “the big tease” – at least for the rest of 2010. On May 27th we got a taste of Uranus in Aries. His energy has been invigorating (to put it mildly). But Uranus just wanted to give us a little glimpse into what life would be like in Aries. On July 5th he’ll turn retrograde and by August 13th he’ll descend back into Pisces, finishing up his lessons there. Prepare yourself for a loud roll of thunder first. When Uranus turns retrograde it tends to act as an explosive burst in the collective of any repressed rebellious tendencies. If you’ve been doing your best to temper that urge for erratic, overpowered “me, me, me” expression, then the very act of Uranus changing direction might cause you to lose control. Perhaps you’ve been trying to filter all this Uranus in Aries energy up until now. Perhaps you haven’t gone off the deep end, risking it all in the name of empowered individuality. Well, if you haven’t, you might just wake up now. If there’s a significant block or feeling of captivity in your life that impedes your personal development, it’s likely that the days surrounding the retrograde will cause you to revolt. This doesn’t have to automatically mean anything negative — in fact, it could feel quite liberating.Remember, that’s the point of Uranus — to liberate and awaken. If you haven’t realized that Uranus in Aries will require you to claim your most independent expression of self then perhaps his retrograde motion will do you a favor. The alarm clock won’t stop ringing in your ears now. No matter how hard you try to ignore it, Uranus will be relentless in your psyche during the retrograde cycle. I challenge you to consider how you want to harness this energy when it returns full force in March 2011. Who do you think you are?

Our little reading for the week is the prequel to a larger story about self-expression. I think we would all be wise to mind it.

I hope that this finds you well.

Scott Lifencompass

Good morning.

Tarot Weekly: Monday, June 28th – Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Before I begin the Tarot Weeklies I wanted to express a few things about the nature of the work, and the purpose (vision). We know that there are different levels of energy, magick, and expression. Some are more spiritual and abstract, some more practical and directly influence the work we do here in this world. There are strengths and weaknesses in those workings, as we’ve seen in various forms there are energies that are stronger in the physical, affecting out blood and bone. These energies have little influence over the organizing intelligences of the lighter energy fields. That said these “lighter energies” (spiritual energies) gather a greater intelligence and can affect powerful organization on the denser energy of the body, but unless they can convince these “denser energies” to cooperate with the changes we wish to see (like our health for example), not much of what we want occurs.

I think one system that shows a perfect example of how the physical and spiritual energies interact, is Reiki. The power of Reiki (Lighter Energy) isn’t in it’s ability to heal, but to influence and let the body (denser energy) which has the greatest power to mend but needs an organizing influence to do so. Reiki moves in from subtle levels and through hands, or distance work, the energy begins to work on the denser energies of the physical and help us to shift back into a natural and healthy state of being. The Reiki cannot carry out healing, correcting the body’s health, without the bodies innate ability to regenerate and fight off illness. Regardless if the body in a state of shock, pain, illness, if it cannot organize the energies of the organism, it cannot create the healthy change that it needs.

This is where Reiki can be essential in a healing process if the body is already healing it can allow the natural intelligence with the directive and vitality that it needs. If conditions are more severe the Reiki will help shift that innate mind back in the right direction.

Why is this important for the weekly Tarot reading?

Naturally this *waves hands around my blog space* is all from my perspective, but it looks to me that the world is in a place, as a body organism, that is in need of corrective healing energy. By the world I mean, us and those that live in it. The energy we as a species generates through our thoughts, works, actions, and words. We have tremendous power as a people (generally speaking) but we’re “all over the place”… Which I suppose is our way. We fight, we love. We create, we destroy. We conserve, we burn up energy like it will always be available to us. We do these things because we can, or sometimes because we believe that something has a greater priority either by fearing it or championing it, and acting from that place. And the world keeps turning…

I believe that our purpose here on this planet is not only to live in harmony with it, naturally, but also as human beings we have the power to help each other by shifting our consciousness, so that regardless of our practice we can learn to acknowledge the tremendous power we actually have and our responsibility to all our relations.

That’s the path I follow. I shift my consciousness to the here-now while accessing the lighter energies, spiritual influences, to create the shift in the world around me. I don’t mean like shifting the war in Iraq, although enough of us probably could, I mean creating change in the relationships around me. The relationships we carry with each other, friends, family, associates. Our relationship with food, our environment, plants, animals, and nature. Our relationship with our self.

These three paths of relating are essential for survivability. Daily, they are the relations that we interact with (on some level). The way that we interact with our relationships is how we can gauge the focus of our consciousness. Knowing our focus we can then plumb the depths of our watery nature and understand the emotional vibration we are sending out into the world.

You, yes you, like me, are responsible for your own energy, your own expression of that vibe you are sending out; and we can begin to change it by focusing on how we relate to others. This is telling of the type of influence we are projecting into the world. Fearful? Negative? Mean? Are we loving? Kind? Creative? Insightful?

Do our bodies, vehicles for our All, traveling through the world leave a path of blind and senseless destruction? Chaos? Beauty? Love? Do people fear us or engender us with kindness, helpfulness, friendship, and companionship?

This weeks energies are calling to us and focusing on tuning the mind into two frequencies, both dense and light, to see our own energy and explore the actions and emotional frequencies we are transmitting to others around us. We can explore this through getting centered and working the spiritual paths, our energetic and emotional body, and also by looking at the world around us, right near our hearts, head, and body to see how our relations respond to us.

Although there is an element of thinking involved in this observation your seat of power is really your emotional nature. This seat tells us two things, when we sit down in it and get comfortable. How we interact emotionally with the world and if we rule, or are ruled-by, our emotions. It also tells us what vibratory level we are carrying into the world. Our emotional self is like a vessel of water and it’s rate of vibration is indicative of what we are giving to the world. This is our temper or tone. How you feel is what you vibrate. Your vibration is the vehicle for all that you send. All that we do is a gift into creation, and it returns to you. The longer you generate your emotional energy the more you sustain the vibration you are creating. Changing the tone of that vibration can change the entire transmission going out of us and into the world, and this returns, affirming that shift in consciousness.

This shift affects the world around us as well. The lighter frequencies go out into (by being grounded) the physical world (denser frequencies) through our changed behavior. This doesn’t mean that we suddenly take on different morals or become different people, essentially we are the same person once we know who that being is beneath all the chatter. It is an opportunity to adjust our frequencies personally so that we can better communicate our joys, passions, loves, desires, and will for a better world into the world around us.

There is a great exercise in Awakening to Shamanism, the Path of Direct Revelation. Transfiguration.

“This Transformation of the physical being into light is seen everywhere as a spiritual rebirth in which the visionary becomes a luminous being who has access to the spirits and spiritual realms.”

EXERCISE: TRANSFIGURATION

Sandra Ingerman writes,

“To experience this divine state of your own immortal light, it is good to do some preparation. It can be experienced in a myriad of ways. According to Hank, many discover that it is like a tightly woven basket or cloud composed of lines or light that create an elongated, orb-like luminous field. For some it is the bright darkness of the void. Some will see this field visually; others simply sense utter peace and tranquility in which they often feel the light expand within themselves or perceive it behind their closed eyelids.”

The later, after you have readied yourself for journey work…

“It is important to note that in this experience you are not journeying outside of yourself into another world. You are actually traveling within to experience your inner light so that it can shine through you. Many people actually perceive it as a luminous visual phenomenon against the darkened field of their closed eyes.

You might begin the journey by repeating the following intention: “Thank you for taking from me that which keeps me separate from my spiritual light, my divine perfection, the source, and the state of oneness.”

(SCOTT: IMO you should feel free to substitute these words with whatever sort of intention that best suites your personal magickal / spiritual path).

“This intention at the journey’s onset tells your helping spirits and the universe that you want to transform the form of your body and the thoughts that fil your mind. This, in turn, will bring you into a state of oneness with your source, your personal creator, your god-self, and beyond that with the god or the goddess, the power of the universe, or whatever you wish to call the source of all things.

As you repeat your intention you wil find that your helping spirits may hep you create a way for your body and mind to dissolve so that you may begin to experience yourself as pure spiritual light. Keep breathing and experience this wonderful state. Soon you might feel a change in the change in the vibration of your body. You can stay in this state for the length of the drumming, or for anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes while you are listening to the music (See CD). This is enough time to truly give you the experience of transfiguration.

When we keep up our transfiguration work and have an experience of our inner light, we also start to find our eyes shining-reflecting that we have touched into the place of inner joy and inner wealth as the indigenous shamans do. In this way we bring more light into our own lives and the world.”

Awakening to Shamansim, The Path of Direct Revelation, Pgs. 171-171
Sandra Ingerman

You can practice this exercise or some other exercise that is more to your own tastes, or you can simply keep your awareness centered in the emotional body. Pay attention to the message of the vibration, and note how/when/if you can and should shift it to help create the beneficial, natural, healthy changes in our relationships that support our greater well-being.

Your cards for this weeks meditation have been: The Star. The Queen of Cups. Three of Pentacles.
