Welcome back to Essentials.

In a continuing investigation we’re delving into the components and properties of Young Living (YL) Essential Oils, specifically their formulated blends. Designed with many purposes like emotional healing, attracting abundance, and lifting our vibrational frequencies, to name a few, we find that YL oils are far from simple air fresheners, and take aromatherapy to a new level of healing and use.

I also had some thoughts on the use of herbs magickally versus aromatherapeutically. Is there a difference? Does a plant essence create a different effect when used in Aromatherapy, versus traditional magickal purposes? There are, in some instances, many uses and folklore on herbs that are similar.  The primary focus of YL essential oils is aromatherapeutic. There does seem to be large shared purposes in both magickal practice and aromatherapy.

Which brings us to these posts, welcome to the Essentials.

We’re going to go through the blends first, they contain various essential oils, blended for a purpose. If I like the process, and IF it turns out that people enjoy the comparison, then I may dig into the single blends.

We continue our exploration with Acceptance.

Lately it seems that everything has become a process or resonance, for me the world is an emotionally and energetically tactile place if you feel it, if you accept what it is. Over the past few years of study this has sometimes proved difficult to digest. Parts  of me held on to… I don’t know, numbness, or a lack of “complete vision.” I don’t feel I was actually seeing the world even tho I was looking at things. Make sense?

Now it is as if most things I connect with can be accessed like a library, if I really take the time to resonate with it, the being of people, places, and things.

Acceptance is one of the many doorways. I want to say keys but it is more than a lock turning mechanism, it is part of the living experience. Do I have the words to justify the experience? I believe that this statement is true because it is practical when applied, and so it works, so whether I have the vocab or not it’s functional and in my book, “If it works, then it’s good.”

There is a concept that relates to this and I found it along the way, during the Journey, and that overwhelmingly was another realization that who I thought I was as an Individual, was in fact a part of a larger organism of life. In Buddhism this is called Anatman (Sanskrit), Anatta (Pali).

Arising from this, or in some Qabalistic thinking that we realize that these concepts do not rise one of out of the other but simultaneously existing and manifesting in the larger reality; What I am speaking of is our connection to all things: Oneness. It is the real blossom of compassion, perfect love and trust, because our acceptance, our door through to the sensual world brings about the openness to resonate and experience the great ‘self’ that is all that we experience, encounter, touch, taste, and smell, feel and know. What we will know. What we have known.

What does this have to do with an an essential oil? How can this benefit us with the concept of Acceptance? Through resonance and attunement.

With almost all things, including EO’s, I believe in working with the spirit or vibration first. Getting deep with myself and extending my senses into the essence, asking that it work for the betterment of my life, and through that life around me, and with the intent I wish to the essential oil for, in this case: Acceptance which would be my seed thought. This sets the stage for the working, naturally you should have already decided what you were attempting to accomplish in the degree that it most comfortable for you now.

Setting intentions, crafting affirmations, meditation, and prayer to focus yourself on your goal and inner-wisdom are all good tools. From there you can begin to explore the concept of acceptance through scent, touch, feeling and exploration using the essential oil as a catalyst -and a nicely scented on at that- to create the changes that are for your greater good.

Pushan Mudra Give and Take Gesture. By Phylameana lila Desy, Guide

Mudra’s are a way to utilize our mind body connection, like the Witches Trigger, they can induce a state of mind that encapsulates the idea we are cultivating. Combined with breathing, focused meditation, and regular use Pushan can help us cultivate acceptance through contemplation of the give and take of life, and our self.

We can start with an oil, or many things but the important thing to remember is that tho we work witha method, the method is not the  meaning, that is found by our seeking self, individually. No oil, object, or person (IMO) can give you the answer, it is only found in the experience of living. Living is found in a lifetime and the things along the way, when we are attuned to our deeper self, become significant when we understand our connection to them, to us, that wholeness that is the entire being.

(Acceptance) Stimulate the mind, compelling it to open and accept new things in life, allowing one to reach a higher  potential. It also helps to overcome procrastination and denial.

(Acceptance™ stimulates the mind with oils specially blended to promote feelings of accepting ourselves and others, regardless of perceived barriers).

Rosewood, almond oil base, geranium, frankincense, blue tansy, sandalwood and neroli.

Neroli (orange blossom) Thought to heal the mind, body, and spirit in ancient times. Neroli both strengthens and stabilizes the emotions and uplifts and inspires feelings of hopelessness, promoting confidence, courage, joy, peace, and sensuality.

Related to Neptune, fertility, love, with religious uses (historically), favored of Apollo, Gaea, and Hera. Paul Beyerl notes that the oranges have been associated with modern quests, used to strengthen the seeker or to reward the victorious. Blossoms can be used in weddings, having the magick of romance, and fertility. (Comp. Herbal Magick, Pg. 282)

In a sense the Neroli oil can be thought to bring the emotional body into a stable place.

From our post on Abundance:

Orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil has a rich, fruity scent that lifts the spirit while providing a calming influence on the body. Orange brings peace and happiness to the mind.

In addition to their fertility property, oranges have been used for luck, divination, and you guessed it, money. The list of folklore and uses of orange could probably fill a library considering they found all over the world.

Sandalwood (Santalum album) has a rich, sweet, warm, and woody aroma that is sensual and romantic. Used traditionally as incense in religious ceremonies and for meditation, it is uplifting and relaxing. It is valued in skin care for its moisturizing and normalizing properties.

According to the Essential Oils Desk Reference, the fragrant influence of sandalwood enhance peace (sleep, relaxation). It stimulates the pineal gland and limbic system of the brain, the center of the emotions.

Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum), helps cleanse the liver and lymphatic system helping to overcome anger and negative emotions. Promotes a feeling of self-control. (E.O. Desk Reference, Pg. 94).

There are notes for older magickal uses in several tomes, including Tansy-associated funeral rites, asperging, and women’s mystery  rituals, celebrating womanhood. Several sources indicate that Tansy can be used in offensive magick, repelling insects, powers, and energies.

Could it be that Tansy is part of the mixture to “banish” or exorcise negative emotions.

Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora), is said to be empowering and emotionally stabilizing and used in a variety of blends like Acceptance, Joy, Harmony, and White Angelica. Similar to Ho Wood it offers a scent that brings about these emotional triggers.

Thought to boost the immune system and used in other mixtures to alleviate headache, and pain as an amplifier.

Rosewood connected to the heart, and love magick, (being South American), there is a relation to love but also boundaries, in it’s association with Venus and Saturn. I add tidbit because we’re talking about an essential oil that is to “open us to new things” and Saturn, “the great restrictor” finds a useful influence in this particular EO. Opening boundaries.

Rose Geranium.

Image via Wikipedia

Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) relates to memory and the nervous system, specifically in the release of tension and negative emotional memories. It’s fosters a sense of peace, well-being, and hope. (Aromatherapy). It’s anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antitumoral, to name a few. The Healthy Haven notes a use in Aphrodisiacs.

It is a rose scented herb, corresponding to the feminine, related to water, and the planet venus. Tho the color of the flower (parts) can be used for other purposes, there is a strong love association.

Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) has a sweet, warm, balsamic aroma that is stimulating and elevating to the mind. Useful for visualizing, improving one’s spiritual connection, and centering, it has comforting properties that help focus the mind and overcome stress and despair. Frankincense is considered the holy anointing oil in the Middle East, where it has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years.

Seems to be another uplifting spiritual herb used to stimulate the mind and energize the energetic field. Frankincense and Myrrh have long been used together and as base for other incense.

Beyerl writes that Frankincense is associated with the Sun and used, as is Myrrh, with consecration, and in ceremony and ritual. There are other uses such as protection and purification, ritual working for “success” if the practitioner is balanced  in the spiritual and daily life.”

Having a cleansing quality on the Astral Self, or energetic body, used in combination with the other oils I’m thinking we might view the blend(Acceptance), as having multiple uses, but predominantly it could be used in healing emotional trauma through accepting what has happened, in relating with “difficult” people (family, relationships, etc), and broadening our mind to explore facets of our life that could be beneficial to our growth; places where we have closed doors on opportunity, love, growth, and forgiveness.

Naturally Aromatherapy creates benefits through our sense of smell, stimulating our mind-body, but there are other methods of applying essential oils to ourself, and for magickal/energetic purposes.

For aromatic use. Diffuse or apply over the heart, on the wrists, behind the ears, on the neck and on the face.

Possible skin sensitivity. If pregnant or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. Dilution not required; suitable for all but the most sensitive skin. Generally safe for children over 2 years of age.

In the past I’ve used other essential oils in our home, in the office, and around the halls of where we live. Spraying the essential oil around, mixing (roughly) about 6-10 drops of EO to a large spray bottle and generously spreading it around the area in the mix, can be a great immediate shift in the energy.

For example. Let’s say you were going to be doing a meditation or hands on healing for yourself or client. You could use Acceptance, along with other essential oils, to set the tone of the working. Water being related to healing, essential oils having a Yesod connection (and therefore the psychic/energetic framework connection), is an immediate and practical working tool that can be used to infuse the air with a vibration for opening to the work being done… especially when blocks are encountered.

I’ve used essential oils like this in the past to amplify a Reiki Attunement, working with Peace & Calming, Three Wise Men, and White Angelica to center, open up the spiritual paths, and strengthen the aura and attunment as it was passed. For the record it was probably one of the most intense attunements I’ve ever passed. You can read about that attunement here at Lifencompass: Easing Spiritual Blocks with Aromatherapy.

Again this is not an air freshener, and though the scent can stay in the air for hours I feel that it is more effective to wear the oil itself and/or diffusing the blend in the air with a proper essential oil diffuser (non-burning).

You can also use Acceptance in other ways such as in a small vial within a pouch or bag you have designed to open you to new ways of relating, new experiences for personal growth, or even in relationships that have become stagnant, challenging, or affairs where you are seeking to accept others. You can anoint candles for spell or ritual, baths, or just diffuse the oil into the air of your home.

A cost saving  method is to mix it with a base oil, lotion, or body spray that you prefer, these are highly-concentrated blends and a little does go a long way.

*Please read instructions carefully when using ANY essential oil.

Yesterday’s post detailed the turning of a card in the Tarot Journey, and a note about a Reiki attunement session was missing a important part of the story. *Head thunk*

Yes it’s true, I forgot to write about one of the blocks and solutions I discovered with the use of some basic Aromatherapy. So since I gave you the story most of the story yesterday, I’ll leave those details out. (See yesterday’s post, Turning the card: Three of Earth).

At the First Degree in Reiki, we pass four Attunements over a period of time. Usually 3-5 hours in a day, depending on how well one does with the information and how the energy feels to be moving. The first passing of the energy into the crown yesterday was… well, resisted. However my student said “yes I want the Attunement” there was an internal resistance. Again this is all based on some prior study, I don’t generally rush anyone in or out. I’ve been working with this student off an on for about 2 1/2 months.

Anyway, when I placed the sacred symbols into the crown and brought them down it was if they were sitting on top of an orange bubble. A block. It seemed strange but he later explained the similar feeling, as if he was resisting. Separating his energy form the Reiki. On the one hand it is fun to see how we both can perceive the same energy on an psychic level, and another to discover new things in new situations.

I’ve never passed a Reiki Attunement and had someone been so aware of their resistance. Because he was so admittedly conscious of his inability to relax and allow for the passage I brought out my Essential Oils. Two of the little bottles popped out immediately: Peace & Calming, and Three Wise Men.

Three deep, nasal inhalations into the the bottom of the lungs of Peace and Calming, followed by three more long sniffs of Three Wise Men.

The effect? Well, instant. Peace and Calming did as it claimed and relaxed him by the first breath. I purposefully hid the name and had him breath only to see what the effect would be, and because it was so acute, I did the same with Three Wise Men. We chatted for a minute more and then went back to Attunements… This time, he was open, receptive to the energy and it integrated right into his system.

It was a great new discovery. I’ve personally used Three Wise Men as part of an anointing oil in initiations, candles and ritual, as well as part of my own healing journey. I received Peace & Calming as part of a bonus pack for participating in the Auto-Ship, sometime over the summer. Subtle hints of the patchouli, which I don’t usually like, mixed with citrus, and sweet ylang ylang is not only relaxing, it smells delicious.

Some info about the E.O.’s I used…

Saturday at the office I realized that I had left that morning, uncommonly groggy without putting hands to the deck and turning the card on for the Tarot Journey. I called home and caught B before he had left to shop for Halloween costumes and had him flip to the next card for me.

“What is the card?”

“Three of Earth… Works”

The little ping felt correct and “Works” is a nice follow up to The Hierophant. The representative gets to business and in perfect order, and today, Monday, I was scheduled to teach Reiki.

I love these little connections.

When things go into alignment, when I am in harmony with myself the seeming randomness is knit together into a nice weave of instances that connect, click, tie, and the weave of the direction makes perfect sense. The card in particular felt like “my work” and knowing that I was teaching on Monday, I nodded to myself with a cat-like smile.

Painting and healing are top on my list and all things related to them are spun webs, crossing and linking. Mmm patterns. 🙂

Today, Monday, was a good day. I’m always curious about what will come about and who will show for attunements. It’s never been the same once the initiation begins. Sure the ceremony is 90% of the same set of motions, breath-work, and connections to that well of energy but then different when the invitation to the healing forces begins. Some feel like fire or lightening, others light, hot or cold, for each person the actual work of connecting is unique.

It was a happy day overall, for the both of us, when the attunement caught. We took lunch at a little sandwich shop in the Old Bank District, chatted some more and bought some cupcakes.
Speaking of Tarot…

Tarot_Spirit_one_fireI use the Tarot of the Spirit, for the most part, sometimes jumping over to my mini-Rider Waite. I got an email from Pamela Eakins, Ph.D, part of my reading that she is selling signed copies of the companion boo for a limited time.

Check out Tarot of the Spirit’s website and send them an email for more information.

Lovely day.

**(FYI: This is pretty much a journal entry, so no jazz hands on this post. Most of these meditations and the experience to which I am basing the drum line for most of my meditations, e-work and other growth processes are rooted in two things: 1. My long, winding road of experience on a mystical path and, 2. A re-dedication to The Path (Magick / Witchcraft) in the last two years. SO, the meditations and other steps along the way are generally/currently referencing my exploration of the universe through the lessons and observations from The Outer Temple of Witchcraft, by Christopher Penczak).**

So for the past three weeks I’ve been attempting a journey into the Realm of Water with little to no success. Not that I am succeeding on my part but it seems as if there are those in the life around me who just don’t want me to tap into that power/element.

As I recall my fire attunement I encountered several severe eruptions of energy in the form of aggression, anger and even physical + energetic attacks. All of that was of course related to uses of power, will and passion, ambition. My Will. Divine Will. The Will of of others, the spark and spray of fire in the process…

With Water I began at my home altar. I don’t have a cup, bowl or basin. How do I not have some representation of the emotional, the dreamy, the loving?

I wasn’t very successful. Thinking. Thinking. Thinking. I “think to much” because this isn’t about thought (Air), it’s about love, feeling, flow, tides pushing and pulling; or Water.

Twice I entered the inner temple, gazed inward and traveled to that sacred space and twice I was rebuked. The mind fumbles with love analyzing and critiquing. Epic fail at that attunement.

I muddled around with this some more. Attunement to the element of water is the Grail Quest. The Grail Quest is the quest for love, love of the Goddess, love within finding that wellspring. The fountain.

Again I enter mediation. Wednesday. This time I journey directly to my center, there I find the doors to realms. There I knock and ask for entry into the Realm of Water and I am this time met by a familiar face, one that I loved dearly. The fancy little Goldfish I named Titus who passed some six months ago. I smile. I sense his love now, as I did then. Fish have much bigger spirits than their bodies -as my friend Kaynek would say, most things do- and I ride his back along the currents.

Water pulls and pushes, draws and drags, tusles everything in it’s all encompassing cold and dark blanket of moisture where I for moments struggle with a fear of drowning… then breathe as in dreams and become accustomed to the environment.

Shadows of Mer-creatures darting. The cool swish of water as they dart away then, there ahead of me a woman I know. A Goddess. I hear Lakshmi.

Then I am yanked back to the present almost instantly as two people unlock and then enter my office. Workers. Ok but I am instantly back in this place so fast I’m a bit out of sorts.

Hi. Hello. Ok. Yes. No. Mmm Hmm.

I didn’t get back into meditation.

Today I begin to journal again. Note taking. Following the stream of consciousness and there she is again. Then images, people -yes a woman showing at the Rowan tonight happens to know a lot about Lakshmi- and I ask about her experience.

Faces flashing. Reflections in water. Eyes smiling upon eyes, gazing into my eyes I am taken back to… there! That place and, “BOOM!”  a silent opening as my heart shrugs off this up-to-now unseen plate of something and the feeling of love fills me.

In a wash, a wave of sensation sweeps through me -you know this right? Like you’re falling in love- and I open.

Tears are still in my eyes. Not sadness. No, more like joy and relief core with a seed of tingling light. Reminds me of a first blush.

That to me is Lakshmi, my Goddess at the Western Gate.

Be well,

Scott K Smith

An attunement is an initiation. I can see no bell or whistle in the process of the two that is any different except the method. We get centered. We call in the healers, and set the intention. We hold the crown open and watch while symbols spark with color and light. With a sense of gratitude, centered in the heart, we welcome the healer that has come to us with the intent to become, and seal the symbols into the auric field.

It’s really quite amazing to me that I simply hold the space and the “Universe” does the rest. Sounds pretty simple but it took me years to get to the place where I can experience this type  of interaction and amazing passage of energy.

I’m going to segue over to a bit about Ki / Life Force Energy for minute, bear with me I have a point.

Reiki, or the Life Force Energy, (Ki, Qi, etc) are  names for that energy which can be felt in all interactions in life but intensely in rituals, rites of passage and initiations. Reiki happens to be a  name for a lighter, more intelligent vibration. By “Intelligent” I mean to say flexible with a consistency to effect change or direct energy. Much like a magnet over iron, the Reiki (magnet) pulls on the denser energies.

There are many variations or frequencies of energy when it comes to Ki. Like water which is a fluid, a gas (evaporated), frozen or as a building block in Oxygen. It is all water just in various densities or states.

More than this the  understanding of Life Force Energy comes not only from the vibration of energy but also its function or action. Energy that is defined by sudden transformation or shifts, that is Denki.

Reiki is spiritual power.

Dr. George Oshawa, founder of the Macrobiotic Diet, defined the variations of Ki (which is where I began this study) in this way.

There are seven types of Ki:

•Kekki: Ki of the blood.

•Shioke: Ki of the salt or minerals.

•Mizuke: Ki of liquids or water.

•Kuki: Ki of the gases or air.

•Denki: Ki of thunder.

•Jiki: Magnetic power.

•Reiki: Spiritual power.

•Shinki: Divine Ki.

Where Kekki has the strongest power to heal, because it is the densest form of Ki and most related to the body it has no ability to organize to produce the healing unless a greater, (intelligent), force applies the right vibration. That is where Reiki comes in. Reiki would be considered a “Spiritual Energy” or lighter vibration with less power to heal and  more power to organize and direct denser energies for a specific purpose. In short the Universal Mind is the intelligence behind the body of energy that we call healing, creative, magick.

During an attunement we are tapping into that Universal Mind (Intelligence) to affect the denser levels of energy in the body to carry, or “tune into” the spiritual organizing energies of the Universe. This is why the attunement or initiation works in the way it does. We’re brining in a previously untapped energy to the recipient and getting their Life Force Energy tuned in on that source. Like the magnet drawing on the iron.

One could meditate and focus on the sacred symbols and over time begin to tune into the energy as well. Much like the monks that are said to be part of Dr. Usui’s study (Tendai Buddhism). Breath-work, meditation, visualization, chanting, and diet to completely focus on harmonizing with these energies is possible. It takes time and commitment. An attunement is a short step to the end result.

Think about that one for a moment. You, the Reiki initiate, are getting an infusion of that primal energy in a few hours of a day instead of cultivating it over years. It is a pretty profound moment and one that needs careful consideration. If you are already on a spiritual path you may be getting a little boost or acceleration in your growth but if you are just beginning to explore healing, energy, and the Metaphysical Universe you might be in for one of those talked about “Reiki Cleanses” which tend to go through the system like a flue or illness. As the Reiki begins to work through the body affecting our energy, dispersing toxins, we can become ill as a form of elimination.

Then what is next? What happens when you perceive energy, guides, chakras or even someone’s personal deities?

There are other transformations that can happen. We can have sudden changes in our life, the way we think and interact with others because tuning into this higher frequency of energy can have dramatic affects. We think of toxins and pollutants as chemicals and bad diet, drugs and such, but when a relationship fails because we failed to see that it was “toxic” emotionally or spiritually, we can really be wrecked.

When we are not prepared or instructed to deal with a metaphysical reality, even tho we have the energy in us that is instigating the interaction, we can really be doing more harm than good.

Some people will say that Reiki cannot cause harm. Well water is not harmful per se but if you are suddenly out sea and dropped on a boat and told to get home, well it can become dangerous. How do we predict the weather? How do we navigate? Basic training is needed and it is up to the teacher and student to come to the understanding of what type and how much of that schooling will come into play along with the attunement.

Remember Usui didn’t just pass Reiki, hand out a certificate, and let you go. No ma’am. You started with meditation, you worked in the clinic, heck I think you even had to live with him! Tho the initiation process works, back in the Doctor’s day you had to learn through osmosis, exposure and dedication. You worked for it.

Sometimes you will come across a student who for all intents and purposes says that they want to learn Reiki… but everything feels wrong about it. Jumping full circle here and thinking about how I am involved in the ritual, if we are really tuning in, we can feel when the energy just isn’t going to move. In this case the Guides say, “no.”

I found myself in this situation now. Tho I respect the insights and guidance I am receiving from my healing forces and the Universe that the student is not ready, I’m confronted with his desire for me to pass the energy. We are in a waiting period. The two of us have set up multiple appointments that just haven’t been kept. Sudden sickness, job commitments and life in general seem to suddenly conspire for him in a different way. We wait. We feel. We find when the time is right and explore why that is not right now.

This is serious business. Reiki isn’t an item, it is a tradition, yes, but it s tap into the healing forces of the universe which can have a tremendously beneficial influence in our life but should never be rushed or taken without some thought and exploration. Is it right for me? What is behind my desire to learn healing? Am I ready for this commitment at this time?

I mean I guess one could go through the motions but there isn’t much integrity in that.

My friends fortune cookie at lunch today said, “Commitment is the daily triumph of integrity over skepticism”. My first Reiki master, the lovely Claudia, always affirmed the need to conduct myself as a healer with respect, to hold myself to a higher standard and commit to it.

This isn’t McReiki although you will probably be “luvin it”. You aren’t going to get a drive through attunement and an extra large coke. In fact I could tell you exactly why I don’t want you to ever drink a coke again, but that’s another topic. Suffice to say I took Claudia’s words and work to heart. She is an shining example. I am sure I have said it before, she is my Reiki hero.

We as healers, would be healers, even “just us” as humans are part of a larger more beautiful organism. When I perform an initiation into the Life Force Energy there, present in my circle are glimpses of that beauty. When the healing is passed it is there. I listen and follow. This is the Greater Intelligence that my teachers spoke of and others write about. How the energy flows where it is needed.  This is the Reiki that George Oshawa has described as an organizing force of spiritual power.

This is the feeling that directs my work.

I am excited to be back, healing, teaching and even painting.

We are in an interesting time right now. Eclipses, shifts, rises and falls in the natural tides bring about an elevation in our awareness of certain issues. I see a lot of drama in those around me with regards to relationships from Facebook, to the phone, to a lunchtime conversation or client. Deep issues under the surface being suddenly brought out. Some of that which is coming up is pretty peaceful but many are confrontational. More than this I see a new resolution that comes out of these situations, a commitment to a more soulful purpose. Maybe a continuance, maybe a break and begin again, but usually with a sentiment that they should be more focused on a souls calling then the relationship that has held them back up until this point.

In two weeks I’ve seen it played out through a death, a break up, the realization of an impending break up, a friendship threatened because true colors have been shown, and in the work place between employee’s. It doesn’t stop there, that is but a few but it tells me what I feel, that a greater tide is at work, pushing and pulling, waxing and waning.  That our idea of control is so small compared to the cycles of nature, our nature. That we still have much to remember and always more to experience.

That attunement I performed last week was truly amazing. We spoke for an hour and talked about the nature of their (my client) life situation. We discussed the purpose of the attunement and then the energy became “right” and it was time.

He sat, I stood behind him. I began the evocation of energy. I opened the crown and then I watched in wonder as the healing guides went to work. I was guided, I assisted but it was much bigger than me. Colors flashed, symbols lit up, feelings descended into energy and then the crown was closed.

When it was over we both said, “wow”.

In retrospect I wonder how many people are feeling this, sensing this, and how many miss out on the real beauty because of lack of experience? I’m hungry for shared stories, through my initiation my world has expanded and so my commitment and practice as well. I’m wondering if it is this vivid and intense now, what will it be in 10 years, or even 20?

As always, your thoughts, insights and comments are welcome.

Be twirly,

|| Reiki Introduction ||

Welcome back.

Since my schedule is starting to clear up a teensy bit and I’ve received several inquiries for taking on some new students I decided it was time to dust off the manual and update the materials. Something old, something new, you know just a spring spruce up.

It’s been awhile since I have worked with any new students but for the most part my graduates have flown on into their own explorations.

I expect to open the doors for new students by Summer, after B and I return from Germany, around August.

I would like to introduce to you my teaching style of Reiki, in case you you are curious about my methods and philosophy…

I do not teach Reiki and pass an attunement in a day unless I am certain that one already has cultivated some basic tools equivalent or related to the level of energy and experience that is necessary. Even then I still prefer a period of time while you get to know the system and allow for a bit of meditation in preparation for the attunement process.

I know that there is little harm that can come from the inexperienced to the client but there is a lot that can go wrong if someone does not have the proper understanding of their own inner experience or the basics of the Reiki system.

My original Reiki Master’s, Claudia McGregor and Cheryl Coleman, used to perform what they called “Reiki Rescue”. Taking in new students who had received attunements to the Life Force Energy with little or no instruction about utilizing the energy as a force for healing. I believe, and still do, in the integrity of their work. They held themselves to a higher standard and treated each student, each human being, with respect and tailored what they knew to those that they taught. I was/am inspired by their examples and I carry on that tradition.

Each and every person who comes to learn Reiki is unique, we are all at varying levels of learning and so I know that I cannot instruct everyone in one afternoon. Some folks may already have surpassed the basic understanding about the human energy system, chakras or even know all about Reiki but not have received and attunement yet. These people (in general) tend to have quicker learning experiences and we go through the learning in a day.

Others are just entering into the passage from the mundane into the world of healing with Ki, energy, and so it can take a longer time to pick up the energy. That is generally why I have given the 1-2 week learning program via my manual. It allows for students old and new to meditate, after instruction, and get a basic feel for the energy of Reiki. It allows for reading, study and experimentation to come to an understanding about the system so that when we meet it is more a review, Q&A and attunement period.

A gradual build up to the energy of Reiki, in my opinion, always softens what some call the healing cleanse that can occur after an attunement. In that time I transmit to the student the Life Force Energy and by the time we meet, one should know if they are ready to commit to the healing practice or not.

Then, in the end, I make myself available to students (within reason) via email for follow up questions, etc for 30 days. Additional assistance falls into consultations and that I can discuss further and create the details with the student at that time.

In general if one were to want to train in 3 Degrees of Reiki with me, I separate the attunements and experience up. After a 1st Degree attunement I generally do not pass a 2nd Degree for at least 3 – 6 months and following that, I do not pass the Master Attunement until one has had at least a years worth of experience at the 2nd Degree level. The importance of the symbol work and distance healing is essential.

This timeline is my “rule of thumb” but it’s not set in stone. As I said, each person is different.

The following is my introduction to Reiki 1, the full manual will be made available to old and new students of (closed) and I may edit this just a bit more but otherwise this would basically be the introduction.

Introduction: Reiki 1,

Reiki_KanjiIt’s been many years since I first received my Reiki training and in that time a lot has changed about what we know, and how I practice Reiki. When I began my path as a healer it was with stones and herbs and prayers to the Gods. Most spiritual practices can give us an introduction to healing in some form or another. My path was in the pagan and Wiccan influences, among other various instructions.

You may have been introduced to healing through prayer or meditation, or you could have been brought into it naturally, through family or an opportunity to learn with a teacher or healer. Doctors or a a nurse could have supplied us with a healing touch, awakening the compassion to heal others. Regardless, the calling is clear when one seeks to heal another.

Let us be clear in the beginning that Reiki is not “faith healing” or “prayer”. It is a system based on Tendai Buddhism, and is reminiscent of many Martial Arts Practices where one channels Ki, or Life Force Energy that is present in all things. Coming from an Asian, predominantly Japanese and Chinese influence, Reiki is the blossom of a rich history of Wu Shamanism, Taoism, Esoteric Buddhism and in the end, the enlightenment of Dr. Mikao Usui who was seeking a viable healing path.

Being and eclectic healer and witch myself, you will find that I integrate many healing practices into the work that I do. In order to help you distinguish between the Reiki tradition and the use of Reiki, the Life Force Energy, I will note the differences in the practice.

I think the most important thing to remember is that through this new introduction to healing you are embarking on a whole new level of experiencing health, wellness and the path to becoming a healer. The true path of healing is that of love, conscious living and giving unconditionally. It is not bound to traditions, though we respect these traditional means, but it springs from them as ladders, paths of elevation that lift us out of the way were are into a new realm of living. I call this path, as a healer, the development of the Healers Consciousness, and it is the blossom of the mind and spirit of the healer.

It is not just a method of healing but also the awareness of our own innate healing power and potential as well as the endless ways in which we can apply the Healers Consciousness to living in our day-to-day lives. So we can also look at this journey into a new world as an exploration of our inner world. If you haven’t already begun, you will learn some tools to help you learn and grow as a human being.

The fragrance of this blossom of consciousness is the integration of the Healers Consciousness into all aspects of your life. When cooking, breathing, writing, walking, become healing the potential of our healing capabilities is made apparent. Ultimately the fragrance is the compassionate and loving spirit that passes the healing energy without worry or ego, in any and all ways and one becomes Reiki.

Healing may happen when you place your hands on the body of another, but never forget that it is not limited to this method alone. Our thoughts, actions, words, feelings and deeds can create healing and in turn all things we create can heal. Healing can be found in our food, in our pictures and stories and in the most mundane “routine” actions of our life. It is just a matter of how our minds are directed, how open we are to seeing the way in which we can heal and not just how we are supposed to heal.

This is a manual to teach you the basics of Reiki. Within these pages you will find information on things like the nature of energy, history on the path and more, like hand positions to help you complete a full body healing session.

These are methods that are proven but not absolute. They are tools and guides for you to use as stepping-stones on your healing path. You will grow, learn new practices and integrate new means to heal. In short you will grow and change and your guide may be this manual, but remember that no book on Reiki  is absolute. Your guide should be your intuition in conjunction with your experience and the Tradition of healing. Your intuitive guide is your greatest source of information. The inner voice that connects our minds and our deepest self to our highest and most divine self.

Using our intuition we will learn to follow the soft guide of Reiki, the path that the energy flows. We will feel it pulse, flow and ebb and pulse again. These subtly felt tides of energy will be our indicators of where we heal and when the healing is complete.

You may have read it or heard it said, Reiki is like water it flows to where it is needed. You may hear that Reiki has an intelligence all of it’s own and in many senses this is true. Just as a tree grows towards light and water moves downhill, Reiki vibrates towards balance, it is the way of the Life Force Energy.

There are many different types of Reiki. What I teach is based on the Reiki tradition as I was taught, that system that ultimately stems from Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki tradition (not the energy itself) and is blended in areas with other teachings, paths and insights that I have found to be effective.

Reiki is healing path. The attunements you receive today are your initiation into this healing energy system. I hope that it will transform your life for the better in all ways.

If you are interested in scheduling a session or in learning Reiki, please contact me and let’s discuss.
