While there is a healthy dose of skepticism in this article, and a comment of “absurd” from a doctor, their clinic study, and patient response gives Reiki a thumbs up.

My original Reiki teachers, and friends, established a free clinic of complimentary / alternative therapies in the 80’s through the 90’s and eventually had an out-patient clinic at hospital in SF, thanks to the welcome reception by Kaiser.  They offered Reiki, among other things, as a complimentary therapy for the recovering.

I can still remember Claudia retelling her meeting with the board of directors and administering Reiki to doctors. Anyway… on to the article.

Article Excerpt: Reiki Used for Cancer Patience – WSJ.com

Reiki, a therapy in which hands are placed lightly on the body or just above it, is increasingly being used to reduce cancer-related fatigue, anxiety, nausea and pain. Several studies suggest a benefit to patients, but scientists say more large, rigorous studies are needed.

Cancer patients—due to the disease and to side effects of chemotherapy—often suffer from severe mental and physical fatigue, doctors say. Anxiety, nausea and pain are also common. In recent years, many cancer centers have been offering Reiki, a form of healing which originated in Japan in the early 1900s, according to scientific literature. In a session of Reiki, hands are placed lightly on the body. Each spot is treated for three minutes or longer and sometimes therapists place their hands just above the body without touching, says Donah Drewett, a Fairlee, Vt.-based Reiki therapist who works at Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Don’t forget that Doctor Oz played a supporting role on his show, The Doctor Oz Show.” You can catch that segment on Youtube, or via my Reiki page, here. (Scroll to the bottom, press play).

In almost 20 years of Reiki work I’ve seen a lot. Dramatic recovery’s, long term treatments, and heard stories of assisting those in passage from this life. I’ve used Reiki to compliment healing, release, and lift emotional states of being, in art, cooking, and in conversation.

For me, it is a living part of my life. I’m always glad to see it in the news in such a positive light.

I appreciate your comments, keep them coming!

Big love.

If you are like me it’s almost if no amount of shielding will filter out seasonal shifts or big events like the recent earthquake in Japan. I know. I know, the media can blow anything up and out to ever heightening levels of hype, gloom, and doom but the energy I am really speaking about is the back lash of sorrow, suffering, and pain that comes from such a disaster.

This doesn’t make for good spiritual or energetic work.

I am reminded this morning that someone like myself, a healer among other things, should take the time to work out these energies from my system and to do my part in easing the suffering. I believe we can and do have an effect on the global consciousness by shifting our own.

This week we do not have a “Tarot Weekly,” as is the norm because I’ve been told that the greater path is in helping to shift some of this energy released into the world. Saturday I posted to the Journey Lifencompass fan page on Facebook about an encounter on the street. Someone, who I know around downtown LA was walking by just as I stepped out of the office at the lofts. I had woke at 3:50 am that day and could not seem to clear myself from Friday’s earthquake and Tsunami, imagining, feeling, wondering about all of those people, and their lives. I stepped out the door as this man I know walked by and he said, in short, “You are a  Light Worker.”

I wrote that day, “No accidents. 12 million people in a city and I walk out the door of the El Dorado Lofts to bump into a man who tells me I am a light worker, that we raise our consciousness to a higher vibration. Each of us that does, raises it a little for everyone else. *warm* love* lifted. The universe is reciprocal. ;)”

Then

“levels of consciousness are: shame, guilt, apathy, grief, fear, desire, anger, pride, courage, neutrality, willingness, acceptance, reason, love, joy, peace, enlightenment.”

I am reminded of my lovely friend  Jamie, and a conversation we had about the events just after the earthquake in Haiti, and how these types of disasters release so much into the psychic mind of the global consciousness. How it is up to us to bring the lost through the pain to release. The role of the Witch, the walker between worlds, the priest or priests. In an age of Aquarian enlightenment potential, that means all of us as the One of the Age of Pisces moves into the Many of the Collective Age of Aquarius.

So… here are my thoughts and some of the guidance I have been given that has worked for me in this time.

Send healing, and send love, in addition to whatever monetary support you can. Our consciousness needs the right vehicle for the sending so what I look for is the right vibration / frame of mind that suits the clearest purpose. My healing practice allows for me to enter a clear state where the energy passes through me. Seeking a place where you are clear is important. We do not want to sit within the fear, anger, or denser emotional vehicles when communicating our prayers, and healing.

This empowers the pain by reinforcing it.

The Tarot Weekly last week guided us to seek solace in our center.

In Strength, this week, I would like to see you finding sustenance in yoursource(s) through activities that bring you to the place where that feeling, the vibration, of your solace is resonating like a song, in every part of your body. Forget the astrology, the details, the minutia and immerse in that at the start of the week.

Let that inner feeling be a wind to your sails, let them be full as you travel forward through the next seven days.

That is the sweet spot for any intention work on healing or aid this week. From that place of retreat that leads us to our center, our magickal space, we work in the world on these issues.

Observe your mental state while working with others, as you move through the world. We are healers! We don’t want to get caught up in emotional dramas caused by stresses that many of the people around us are not aware of. Many people often react completely unconsciously and channel the stresses of their life and the world through them and into the people around them. They are still in the experience of learning at this level.

When I move into my day I try to be transparent to this energy. As my encounter on Saturday reminded me, some of the newer practices I am learning through the Awaken Your Light Body Course, which really affirmed the Hermetic Principles, specifically the Principles of Mentalism, Rhythm, and the Principle of Cause and Effect. (Full copy here at The Kybalion).

My practice in short is to resonate with the area that needs healing or more light, aid, or love. You can use your own distance healing practice. We do not connect to it, we become aware of it, as we are aware of our own self and we begin in that place to shift the energy to a lighter vibration.

Lastly, be aware of how much information you are taking in about events that are causing suffering. Even if the news is playing in the background your mind is still taking it in. This is the easiest way I am inundated with the energy. Media communicates the energy to bigger and bigger sensations. Our eyes and ears can be overwhelmed from all the news, conversations, blogs…

Coming from the place of what we can do. Turning off the conversation, the television, and walking away from the news networks online that trumpet a 24 hour channel of “The Disaster” can help!

We all have different ways of handling the situations in our life, great or small. This is one way, my way, that I highlight for you.

Protect yourself.

If you would like more information on being transparent, education on how to shift your own energy, or just need a consultation on other matters, please contact me to schedule an appointment. You can send me an email on my contact page, here).

Be well,

Food for thought this morning. Among the many great speaks at Ted.com.

The thesaurus might equate “disabled” with synonyms like “useless” and “mutilated,” but ground-breaking runner Aimee Mullins is out to redefine the word. Defying these associations, she shows how adversity — in her case, being born without shinbones — actually opens the door for human potential.

About Aimee Mullins

A record-breaker at the Paralympic Games in 1996, Aimee Mullins has built a career as a model, actor and activist for women, sports and the next generation of prosthetics. Full bio and more links

Hello hello.

I’m very sorry for the late post, but I’ve had a very busy and full day… and this isn’t my full time job, however much I would like for it to be. No really, pay me and I will make it so. *wink*

Any-ho-ho here’s the bits from the reading and a few updates. They all interrelate, you know how I like to draw lines.

First the Conscious Life Expo (post conference) with Hank Wesselman.

As I read The Bowl of Light and get better acquainted with him and the story I am moved to comment and support his work and path. You can read the review here, at Lifencompass. I love this book.

Yesterday was no exception to my enjoyment, or my exploration. Hank is lovingly multifaceted, humorous, intelligent, detailed, wise, and learned. I sat in the presence of an elder and I came away better for it. First for knowing that his work rings truth and second that he is, really, a walker between worlds. There was a distinctive twinkle in his eyes that communicated the light of what he represents and teaches. We’re lucky to have him, and people like him, in the world today. He sees into you, he looks at you from the heart. A Shaman.

After the seminar, and some Journey Work to the drum: forgiveness. Healing. Compassion. My friend K and I took some time to catch up and talk about events in the world. Most specifically the recent changes and the quickened, or compact, nature of the latests shifts. (See end of last year through present).

I have to reference this week, last weeks reading:

The spirit addresses us in those who command the physical. Men or women who are rulers in their own right, leaders, kings, emperors, politicians, officials. The light shines through them, their message or the message around them. This is significant in that their decisions are affecting our environment, the physical and social realms that we operate within. The mother.

We are rulers in our own right. Do not let persuasive power move you. Keep your wit and your strength, by claiming your own choices (destiny) and going the direction that feels right for your own growth, practice, or period of life.

This flows with and through a pervasive sense of rising waters as the energy shifts in the subtle, that are chaning consciousness. It is as if the flavor of things have changed and we are all experiencing it. Some of us on a conscious level, others simply living through it.

This week the catalyst has been sent to us. The cracks in the world of last weeks reading have been set to motion, as the Tower places center in our weekly spread.

Tarot Weekly

I would like to have this song playing but the music The House that Jack Built playing as you read the weekly, but I couldn’t find a quality version online.

This is the house that Jack built, y’all
Remember this house!

This was the land that he worked by hand
The was the dream of an upright man
This was the room that was filled with love
This was a love that I was proud of
This was a life of a love I planned
Of a love and a life we loved
Of the house that Jack built.
Remember this house!

There was the fence that held our love,
There was the gate that he walked out of
This is the heart that is turned to stone
This was the house, but it ain’t no home
This is the love that I once had
In a dream that I thought was love,
This is the house that Jack built,
I’m gonn’ remember this house!

Oh-ohh wha-a-at’s the use of crying?
Because I brought it on myself
There’s no denying
But it see-e-ee-ems awful funny
That I didn’t understand
Was it a house of an upright man

~Aretha Franklkin

The call this week is for authenticity. To speak from the place of power that has been defined by ourself, within ourself, and in the world and relationships. Our dear Queen of Swords has appeared again in reverse. Though normally she is the direct speaker, often received as harsh, her words are now split or subtle. This tells me that our words can be misinterpreted or that observing the inner dialogue will reveal motivations or paths that can lead us to our goals without direct intervention or confrontation.

These are mental games to watch for in yourself. In either realm, especially the energetic, keep your poise and balance by maintaining grace and authenticity. Be moved by your choices and not the choices of others…

The next two cards ask questions about our changes. What are you holding on? Why are you holding on to it?  What are your choices? What feels right in the heart and makes sense? The heart is not the leader but one of our voices, the conversation must include the head for discernment and practicality. Meaning that you can spend a lot of time over analyzing but, hello *poke* this is the tower, it’s burning. Time to move folks.

Change is upon you but the power to deflect what can feel like a strike at you is yours. Authenticity requires that we are absolutely truthful with ourself about ourself, our motives, wants, and needs. Act from a place of light and awareness. That very thing lessens any connection to human dramas that may evolve from this change. Be above it (spiritual) and within it (grounded and present), let your honesty shine.

Change is now. It is irrevocable as a cycle completes a final turn and begins to close. The time for planning and negotiating, deciding direction and picking opportunities is past. The Tower burns, meaning that the structure is indeed hashed, the end is now.

The Eight of Cups Reversed….

“The reversed Eight of Cups suggests that you may be feeling confused about where your best options lie. Part of you wants to explore new horizons and possibilities, but another part of you fears that in doing so, you’ll miss out on what your current circumstances have to offer.

The Eight of Cups reversed also represents knowing when to walk away from a situation that is ultimately not working for you.” ~Biddy Tarot

“In a reversed position, the Eight of Cups often indicates struggles concerning separation or moving on. There may be on over attachment to one’s past. In some cases, the Eight of Cups can indicate co-dependency or fear of being alone. There may be a reluctance to mature or grow up. Although you may feel dissatisfied, your fears are preventing you from moving on.” ~Tarot Readings online.

The fear there to be watched for is “giving up the dream,” because it could feel like you are walking away from your path. The reality is that only you can abandon that dream. Situations do not force you away from it, they only offer alternative directions is our intentions are set on the path and the goal.

The path can hardly be called a straight line from point A to point B. There are twists and turns.

I see that moment in the movie Labyrinth where a young Jennifer Connelly, as Sarah is entering the labyrinth. A little catarpillar tries to direct her through what appears to be a solid wall. No going forward, no way in, but it is an illusion. She passes through the the wall and see’s two new directions.

Unfortunately Sarah doesn’t heed the advice of her little ally and she takes a left or right path, when she could have walked right up to the tower of the Goblin King and skipped the whole dam labyrinth. Isn’t that the fools quest…

My intuition points at this: quiet your tongue about your goal and ambition, much like spell-craft it can be knocked off course by psychic interfearence. (Often unitentional). Keep that to yourself or only with those who have your goal in mind and support it, unequivocally. The end of a period related to structures in your life has come.  Do not fall into despair, walk hidden paths, seek the exit from the structure which is crumbling around you. This is a physical structure as in a job or home situation, things built on agreements with other people.

Say goodbye to that House that Jack Built, use the challenges you have at the moment to strengthen your inner fire; and protect that flame, veil it.

The support you may need can come from high and/or low. The presence of the White Phoenix lends aid from the upper realms as spiritual transformation, mirroring what happens at the soul level. As above so below.

And below… Yes there is a pink stone, a rhodochrosite on a matrix of pyrite. This is both protection (pyrite) and energizing and related to the heart (rhodochrosite) helping to circulate the energy of love, compassion, alchemy, and transformation.

Times can seem trying, tough, but if we keep faith in our abilities, self-determination, and instincts while lending trust to the forces that seek our betterment both physically and spiritually we can overcome anything and evolve into something greater.

Know. Will. Dare. Keep silent. And give offerings of thanks for those that assist you.

I was going to wait until I finished this book before I posted a review but I learned that Hank Wesselman will be at the Conscious Life Expo in Los Angeles this month and I had to get this out to share my excitement at meeting the author in the near future.

The Bowl of Light: Ancestral Wisdom from a Hawaiian Shaman is a story, retelling the events around Hank’s meeting and growing friendship with Kahuna elder, Hale Makua. Interestingly enough I happen to have a friend who I have in the past gone to for information about her Hawaiian culture and spiritual traditions. Being a granddaughter of a spiritual elder from the islands I feel she’s my “go-to girl” for this type of spiritual information. I had to talk to her about it because, interestingly enough, her Grandfather is mentioned in the book.

So… the two of us are going to the event on Monday, February 14th at the Hilton Los Angeles: Spirit Medicine: An Overview Of Shamanic Healing. That hyperlink should take you to the events page, it’s roughly a 2 1/2 gathering and talk about healing.

Course Description

Join Hank as he examines the three classic causes of illness and the four levels of Shamanic healing and explores the nature of health and illness from the perspective of some of the Earth’s indigenous people. You will learn ancient, time-tested ways of entering the Shamanic state of consciousness where you can connect with your spirit helpers and healing masters and learn how to work with them in your personal place of power and healing in the inner worlds.

From the Conscious Life Expo:

In the Western world today, interest in complementary and alternative therapies is on the rise, and increasing numbers of health care practitioners and laypersons alike are discovering the ease with which the healing modalities developed by the traditional tribal shamans and medicine makers can be learned and practiced. In this workshop, we examine the nature of health, illness and healing from the cross-cultural perspective of the indigenous peoples. This experiential event includes an overview of the three classic causes of illness and the four traditional levels of healing and concludes with a powerful healing ritual.

Note: Please bring hand drums and rattles (if you have them), a notebook, a bandana or eyeshade and a light blanket.

I will be there. I have purchased my ticket as of this morning. If you feel the call, come on out, I’ll see you there!

Now where was I? Oh… right. The book!

I know you know the feeling, reading something that feels right. The Bowl of Light has taken me on an honest journey through the telling of Hank’s meeting with Hale Makua. There are points within the book such as prayers, and answers to, Pele that have caused me to smile and nod. I’m familiar with my spirit connections, these things I understand because I have them. Then there are other tellings -mind you never too much, breaking tradition or revealing that which should not be given away- such as the understanding of what the bowl of light IS, in the Hawaiian tradition, and many other examples that connect the dots [in my head] to other mystical / tribal traditions.

I’m an avid book reader so my “for instances” can contain some cross-pollination between books. I think that’s OK seeing how the references connect.

For instance…

Christopher Penczak, in his latest book by Copper Cauldron Publishing called The Three Rays of Witchcraft brings up into the light the Three Cauldron’s, or foundations, of Awen. This book is a whole review in and of itself but I am still working on some of the advanced exercises contained within the Three Rays of Witchcraft, but I need time to process and digest those. In short, awesome, but now, my point.

The three Cauldrons as Christopher illustrates, are spiritual vessels within the body at the head, the  heart, and the belly. In his instruction with this Inner Alchemy we are filling up and balancing these cauldrons with energy, light. They are balanced by rays, the three rays in fact, and each is a descent of Power, Love and Wisdom, thus the title of the book. What I found interesting as I read there in the working of the cauldrons is a message that I have heard many times over. To channel, one must make the vessel clear, ready to pass the energy with clarity. One of my first references was Frank Fool’s Crow, and his instruction on clearing the body as a vessel for Wanken to heal, “we must make ourselves like hollow bones.”

This message I found in the Bowl of Light. I asked my friend about her grandfathers connection within the story and then excitedly invited her to the event with Hank Wesselman. She  responded enthusiastically describing the spirituality, as Makua had taught Hank, as I read, of the bowl of light…

“At twilight, Makua got up, using his walking stick for stability, and lurched over to his truck to reach for something in the bed behind the cab. He returned to the table under the shelter with a large pu’olo, a ti-leaf bundle that was wrapped  and tied in the traditional style. He presented it to Jill and me with a grin and the simple word makana – ‘gift.’

We eyed the large, leafy bundle with anticipation for several long moments, savoring this time in the dying light of the last day of the year. Then we opened it excitedly and found within a beautiful yet simple wooden bowl made in the Hawaiian style and shaped like the lower half of a gourd.

‘This is your bowl of light,’ intoned the kahuna with a warm smile, ‘the light that was a gift from you ‘Aumakua, your immortal spiritual soul that divided itself before you were born. Each of us comes into the world from the great beyond with our seed of light. This light nourishes us and sustains us as we pass through life-but as we grow in experience and wisom, things happen.

‘Sometimes we lie. Sometimes we steal, and sometimes we injure others through our thoughts, our actions, or our words. When we step into the negative polarity, it is as though we put a stone in our bowl, and some of our light goes out. Slowly through time, our bowl of light fills up with stones, and our light dims until it is nearly gone.’

Makua stopped and looked at us with great seriousness. ‘The great problem in the world today is that the whole show is being run by individuals whose bowls of light are filled with stones. With few exceptions…

(later)

‘Hopefully, we wake up to what is going on and discover what we are doing.’ The elder paused dramatically, his expressive dark eyes luminous. ‘At that moment, we become aware that our bowl of light is almost filled with stones and there is almost no light shining forth. And you know what we do then?’ Makua paused and his gazed turned serious. Jill and I hung on every word.

Gently he took the wooden bowl from me and turned it over, shaking it vigorously. ‘We simply dump it out!’ A huge roar of laughter burst forth from all of us…”

The Bowl of Light: Ancestral Wisdom from a Hawaiian Shaman, Hank Wesselman, PhD, Chapter 3, pg 47-48.

There is a lot more to this book. Talks about mana, illuminations on the Spiritual Warrior society, and interesting thoughts on polarity and spiritual purpose. It is a gem. More than the overwritten “how to” book. This is good storytelling containing seeds of light for your own “bowl” or cauldron.

I’m going to finish up the stories soon. I’d like to recommend this book to the spiritual seeker or those interested in getting more than just an anthropological perspective on Hawaiian spirituality. It isn’t taken without permission, it has been given and with respect, retold and passed along in a way that I think the spirit of Mauka, and many other ancestors would be pleased.

The Bowl of Light has not yet been released. I’ve been blessed with an advance copy. You will be able to pick up your own copy soon.

Hello. Hello!

Yes I finally did it, I opened the doors to Lifencompass / my home and started a healing share. I began by calling it a Reiki Share but I feel that there are just too many great healing modalities that work well together to limit it to Reiki alone. Besides the work “reiki” is just to limiting lately. There is so much more to it than the “#hashtag” “#Reiki” has become. Today, with a few healers I have worked with over the years, we draw together a start, a circle of healing in Downtown LA. And in the case of anyone thinking, Um why didn’t you call me? I started with students and healers I have established a working relationship with, and those that arrived become what I hope is the seed.

I’m excited!

The energy of the house, that sits within a little healing grid, has changed already and a lot has come in and through in preparation. I am REALLY happy with this. My life, my changes, and my path feel… on point.

So, in the future I’m looking at expanding the circle and opening up the healing practice again, and, and, and, moving forward in this new direction. It’s time. I’m glad you have walked along with me. Anticipate new things, maybe like once a month. Expect invitations.

For updates you can add me as a friend on Facebook:

Welcome back.

The Sun entered Aquarius and we’re given the boon of the star in this weeks reading. I like these combinations between astrological movements and the cards that come into play during the weekly. It gives me a little smile and expands the trust I have in the universe. There is also a note with Saturn, Retrograde (January 26th), which as the great restrictror is asking for a look at commitments we made to projects and/or goals. Reorganize. Restructure. Revisit and prepare for the next movement forward. This retrograde is is in Libra and that pings a few things for me…

Seeking balance or agreements that feel right for you in relationships. Finding, through the re-visioning or restructuring, a new sense of going ahead with your plans or relations that is not only better put together but also feels snug, correct in an emotional way. It’s as if we look back and see, “AH! That’s what was bugging me about this!” and so we change and it “fits.” Also keep in mind that Saturn is generally in retrograde 1/2 of a year, so look at it this sort of (seeming) backward moving period as part of life. It’s there 50% of the time and just par for the course, the cycle, and the season of living.

I think this Saturn (R) should be interesting as well as the President delivers his State of the Union speech. As you know the President outlines his legislative agenda but we’ve had a few bucks to the system lately. There are a lot of talking heads yammering about right now about what the President should and should not do and say. I wonder if Barak Obama will find the words that “fit” the changes that must be made. Congress serves their constituents, the President serves the people. Let’s hope they work together.

Tarot Weekly

Tarot Weekly Jan 24-30, 2011

There is a pause before the change. There is a time of stillness before newness. A moment of darkness before birth.

Like any good leader you have to garner the type of mind that knows when to act and when to remain still. Leading does not require constance manning the  helm at all hours of the day, micro-managing is ANNOYING. It’s time for pow wow, not only a meeting but a gathering of strength and coming together to seek the answers that will best serve us as we come to a close on this last years big changes. Retrogrades and reverses, the World reversed for example, do not mean do not do, although they can I think they are generally there for evaluation. To curb our head strong beast and ask us to stop, look, listen.

That the Star appears, and this is in conjunction with the Saturn+Libra, I think we’re finding the perfect time for inner landscaping seeking answers, solace, and even healing, or in my case easing the spiritual passage. I have the great fortune of knowing many readers, intuitive folk (and the like) and drawing on these friendly resources last week I found a common thread of answer for my own Journey. The message of the spiritual re-birth was clear and the pathway opened before me.

From that path, and the reading, I would like to offer a few tips that may ease your passage in this period of observation, fine-tuning, and easing.

  1. Nurture your process with things of beauty, and acts of beauty. You may think of this as spiritually midwifing and seek out the healer within. Baths, massage, a special therapeutic ceremony that offers healing (The Star) can help you. Even energy work for the sake of something like love, joy, healing, or laughter, sensual giving… these are parts of the pattern of nurturing.
  2. Take advice. In the birthing passage it is hard to see anything else but the way out. It’s sometimes hard to feel anything but the birthing pain. These are leading you towards the new life but it is wise to seek outside perspective, especially when you are simultaneously the mother and the child. It can be confusing (I know) but a little common sense from the doctor can make a world of difference in your perspective.
  3. Expand your graces. Seek support  from your spiritual allies who are probably very involved in your changes. Give offerings. I’ve decorated my house in sweet blossoms not only to bask in the fragrance but to symbolically represent the new birth and give up the blooms to the gods and guides who watch over me.

I’m personally in the midst of this process but after I sought assistance and took the necessary steps to make right for my self and my transformation things began to right themselves. A little self-care can go a long way. I bit of insight can expand a limited insight.

Though the King of Swords is here to call action and progress, I must remind each general that they need a bath, a brush, and a cup of tea with an advisor at the end of the day. No one is capable of doing it all themselves.

Be well,

When we consider violence I think we should think of the mind as the center of violence. From that center unfolds poisoned thoughts, words, and actions. This is the venom of life. The act of violence is the result of violent thought. That said, I think that it is my responsibility as a human being to be mindful of my own thoughts. These are generating my experience.

I am not Buddhist but I see the value in the Noble Eightfold Path, and it starts with the Right View: To see things as they are. It flowers in mindfulness and meditations on improving the consciousness. It is detailed with effort and shows us that it takes focus to be better at being human.

People who speak from a perspective of violence might benefit from the Eightfold Path, at the very least a conscious effort to look at their own life from the Right View.

I think it is up to us to be mindful of this poison that can infect people, and to continually strive to come from a place of medicine, or curing. At the very least, of cultivating our own Right View. That doesn’t require you to believe in Karma, or to be Buddhist, or sacrifice your faith. It is a demonstration of your ability to be a conscious human being. You may not always succeed but there is not judgement in your failure, find encouragement and resolve to dust yourself off and try again.

I don’t know why we have the life that we do but I think that we get what we give into it. In fact I think much like Grace, which is developed along the side of Sin, that our better natures can only be cultivated among the muck and refuse of living.

The contrast creates the beauty. The message is in this simplicity. The meaning (IMO) points back at my self and says, which image do you focus on, the mud or the flower? In that focus what then do you create? How does it feel? Are you better because of it? It takes work.

I tell myself, keep it up.

Scott Lifencompass

Greetings!

With the new year I began a few new projects for Lifencompass, the Journey. Is started a fan page on Facebook. I crafted a new path on my magickal journey, beginning the Living Temple of Witchcraft Series, starting with Volume One: Decent of the Goddess, Christopher Penczak. I also penned a few drafts for some art/craft projects. 🙂

In this posting I wanted to talk about the breath and breathing, through the vein of a few meditations in the Temple of Witchcraft series. This month I have set up a Root Chakra Temple, and started with the Muladhara in my meditations and journey work.

Some of the Temple of Living Witchcraft reviews will appear on my Vimeo channel, for registered and approved viewers. Please contact me there if you would like to view the vlog.

The past three days I’ve woken and done breath work, breathing through my senses.

Opening The Senses

Exercise 3, Living Temple of Witchcraft, Christopher Penczak.

As part of the mysteries of the body, we explore the senses, the root, and the body. I love these exercises, they’ve had a very practical and positive impact on my life, down to my daily routine.

In this meditation we use breath to first draw in healing energy (Life Force Energy, Prana) through each of our senses, and then explore that sense. Meditating on what we perceive. We end by breathing and out through our entire being. If you would like Christopher’s meditation and tutorial, I suggest picking up his Temple of Witchcraft series. Life changing.

After entering a meditative state we breath through our eyes, then ears, nose, skin, and mouth. In each moment we are exploring the power of that breath of energy and opening our senses to the body and the world around us. Sounds pretty simple but you would be surprised at how you have dimmed some of your senses.

I use various methods of moving energy but on the second day of using this technique my mind wandered off the prescribed path and began to piece together other exercises to increase the depth of the experience.

First I recalled that Brandon’s Grand Mother wakes in the morning and does her form of Yoga. Breathing in through her nose, and out through her mouth while stretching and extending her body. Good stuff. At 78 she has done more than most Grand Mothers, including Tae Bo! And she still goes to the gym and looks fabulous!

So as I breathed in and out through my senses I recalled that the breath is healing, enlivening, vital.

I followed through the senses listening and feeling, and then completed the prescribed course at which point my mind jumped off again and I found a few other helpful pathways of breathing.

I recalled a dream from a few  nights ago in which I met a Peruvian medicine person (not sure if that is the proper title of the masculine feminine use of the word). She was breathing in energy of the world and sending it back into the world. It was a startling dream because she was glowing brighter with each breath, powerful with each exhale. She used a few examples, including a friend to demonstrate the power of her breathing technique. During the exercise today she appeared re-illustrating the breathing in and out of Life Force Energy, into the sky, the earth, the body, and the environment. Into each thought that came to my mind.

Then as I was breathing into the earth and sky I began to direct the energy to come through the lungs of the three worlds. Upper, middle, and lower. Each being, one being, myself, breathing in and out the sacred energy of life and breath and returning light and energy to the world. This brought me to the essential self, the awakening of the consciousness of the master within (Awaken Your Light Body, Formless Self, etc) and a new breathing that was an amalgamation of my senses, and levels of awareness.

Breath, is a powerful thing.

You may ask, how are these things beneficial or even practical, as I mentioned before?

Well, I’m finding that a lot of the work done at the Muladhara has brought clarity to financial issues, helped me to organize my house, kept me stable and grounded. This is magick on it’s most practical level. Loving the body and life. Expanding the senses. Becoming aware of our surroundings and making use of the vital energies.

Although I have long worked with my own energetic system the result of re-addressing them from a new perspective has refreshed my outlook, inviting changes and broadening my understanding of myself and my connection to all things.

I’m also reminded of two other points. One, I know that as we shift our awareness we shift awareness around us. Now I do see how that shift could be up or down, meaning positive or negative and how that change can effect those that we surround ourself with. But if you follow me here, and I believe you are, then as I breath I exhale into the world my intention for healing. As I expand my senses to include a deeper awareness of the world around me and my interactive place within it, am I not contributing to some 100th healer phenomena? What was the Peruvian Medicine Person (in my dream) meaning when she instructed to breath that energy back into the world? I have my answer. What would be yours?

The second point that comes to mind is that the practice of meditation, breath work, and of bringing in these subtler energies of healing and light into my life, that they have really changed the vibe around me. I see it in how I interact with those closest to me and how I move through the world. It adds to a fuel of energy within, a little storehouse. It’s very helpful, enough that I would like to share. So here would be my instructions for the breath work. My tweaks to the process.

Breathing Prana, or Life Force Energy

  1. Get into a meditative state. State your intentions.
  2. Start with the Opening the Sense exercise listed in The LToW, Vl. One or another similar breathing exercise to expand your awareness.
  3. Breath in the energy through your five senses. Take note of any feelings, thoughts, sensations, and record them later.
  4. Now that this level of awareness is established, we’re going to go wider. Deeper.
  5. Breath in the Life Force Energy and out into the crown, the heart, and the root. Bring the awareness of your intake and exhale at these points as simultaneous inward and then outward streams of energy. Feel the multi-layered awareness. I imagine my upper, lower, and middle world selves as a linked, unified being. It is sometimes necessary to explore each of them individually to know them. Like understand the had to the arm, the arm to the torso, etc, but for the purposes of this exercise we should be at the stage of having established these points of awareness. If it is uncomfortable, stop, practice something different and come back to it when you feel ready.
  6. Now focus your awareness on the entire being. Breathing in and out into three worlds, through the five senses, the crown, the root, the heart. This is the greater being. Breath in. Breath out. This is who you are in a broader sense, a magickal mapping of mutli-dimensionality.
  7. The power of this being is you. Notice that as you breath in and out into your environment, that the energy is passing through a center in your body. It is moving through a vortex, that is both taking in and sending out the energy. Find that place, should be around the area of your naval. Breath in and out. Breath in the light and exhale the light. See it the vortex of energy glowing with this energy. Not too much, not too little, just the right amount. Send any excess into the world as light. This is healing energy. Life force. It infuses you, your self, your energy centers, breath and body.
  8. Stay in this place of breath, being, and energy until you are ready to return.
  9. Come back to your normal state of consciousness in your preferred way. This plane. This moment. This time. Stretch and move your body comfortably. Bring your breathing back to what feels like your everyday breath. Wiggle your fingers and toes.
  10. Christopher Penczak says, and I recommend, to “Take both hands and raise them up over your head, palms facing your crown. Slowly bring them down  over your forehead, face, throat, chest, abdomen, and then groin, and “push out” with your palms facing away from you. This gives you clearance and balance, releasing any harmful or unwanted energies you might pick up during your magickal experience. Tell yourself:

I give myself clearance and balance. I am in balance with myself. I am in balance with the universe. I release all that does not serve my well being.” (pg 47, LToW, Vol. 1, excerpt Exercise 1).

Now ground yourself as needed.

I’m getting into the habit of this mediation daily, in the morning when I first wake. You can find the time that works best for you. You don’t have to go as deep every time you do the breathing exercise, simply staying with the senses or moving directly to the whole-being as you feel called. I’ve got a pretty good understanding of my whole system so I can start by breathing into my senses and move rather purposefully into the more advanced and deeper work. Go with what feels comfortable, right.

I’m sure you’ll see and feel a difference. Daily meditation, bringing in light work, adding breathing, these things have helped me to clean up parts of my life where I felt a bit disorganized and to follow my calling at the same time.

That’s practical magick.

See you next time.

Yes, like many of you I’m sick. I’m only sitting here at my desk at the moment because I’ve grudgingly taken a 1/2 dose of a “daytime” flu medication. My ill luck started with a hazy x-mas  holiday and a popped blood vessel in my nose. One is bigger than the other and it dramatic weather changes it tends to get bothered. Well, it did. That became a bloody drip that kept me up all night. Roll that into a cold-like symptom this morning and afternoon and here I am, writing to you.

Bleck!

I have pasd Reiki, often for hours at a time when I lay in bed, as it takes no effort to lay hands and enter a meditative state. I’d like to think this has kept me from the worst of whatever hit me but I know tonight I’m going to go down for the healing count and really work on whatever it is that is working on me. 🙂

I’ve cancelled my appointments and any blogging, except maybe to moan and groan, until I’m on the upward swing and able to be clear again to read, cast cards, make art, etc.

Yada. Yada. Yada. I’m going back to being lethargic.

xo ~ Scott
